Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacy Robertson
Hi Lacy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It was August 2002, nearly 22 years ago when I entered the mortgage and real estate industry. I worked for many household company names until April 2006 when my world was shaken. At the time I was working for a company that I just knew that I would retire from. I loved what I did, I got paid very well for doing my job and the benefits were great until I went to work and found out myself and 399 other people were getting laid off that day with no warning or anything. One thing about working in this industry, if one company is laying off most likely other companies are also laying off or at bare minimum they’re not hiring. It’s now six plus months that have went by and I still haven’t landed permanent employment after going on interviews only to hear that, “You’re either overqualified for the position, or we chose another candidate, or I would love to hire you but I’m afraid when the market turns back around you will leave.” While I was looking for employment, I remember attending an evening service at church and a mother at church stood up during testimony service and she began to ask for help. The mother stated, “I’m about to lose my home saints because my mortgage has gone up so high and I can’t afford it.” She got what was described to her as a “senior citizen loan” which was really and arm mortgage where her initial payment was less than interest only and over time the mortgage payment nearly tripled. After service I walked up to her and asked if she would let me, I would love to see how I could help her. She took me up on my offer and I was able to save her home from foreclosure with an affordable fixed mortgage payment based off her current income. I remember taking temporary jobs here and there and when one of the assignments ended shortly thereafter, I was driving in my car in silence and the Lord spoke to me and said, “You already have a job. Don’t put in another application.” I was so confused. What do you mean I already have a job? I began to weep but I needed answers and clarity. I remember going to visit my mom, I told her of the recent exchange in my car and she responded, “What do you know all the ins and outs about? I said, “mortgage and real estate”. She said, well that is it. It was that day my entrepreneurial journey began. I had worked for several years in various capacities in the mortgage and real estate industry that I was able to use all my knowledge to help people save their homes during the 2007 housing crisis and beyond. Some start their entrepreneur journeys voluntarily and some are like me involuntarily due to a layoff. Since everything always works for our good and in our favor, me being laid off was the best thing that ever could have happened to me. I currently help people in both the mortgage and real estate industry by helping them finance, refinance, buy and sell real estate and when life deals them lemons, I help them avoid foreclosure.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely, not. I first started my business out of my house helping people avoid foreclosure after being laid off. I had the knowledge and expertise but two of my biggest obstacles that I faced, day in and day out was I was a young female and I wasn’t an attorney. Many of the people that needed my assistance was very much my senior. Although I came highly recommended to them by someone, they knew and trusted once they met me, I often had to work overtime to earn their business because they couldn’t see this young female being the person that could really help them save their home. Don’t miss your blessings should they come in unexpected packages. Let’s meet Mr. and Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Brown was referred to me by her basketball coach who I helped him, and his wife save their home. Mrs. Brown was highly educated and tried over a half a dozen times to save her home and even went to a popular agency to help her to no avail. When we first conversed, she was very unpleasant and nasty to me and I recall her saying, “I have tried nine times to save my home and get a loan modification. What can you do?” Jeremiah 31:3b states, “Therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn you.” NKJ I had to realize the clients that I was dealing with were hurting and have experienced extreme disappointments and let downs. It was important that in situations like this that I loved them beyond their hurt and remind myself of the end game. I couldn’t take things personal, and I couldn’t allow them to focus on what had happened to them in the past. My response had to be in love and all I could do is reassure them that no I can’t promise you a specific outcome, but I know where you are, I know what you want and if it can be done, I’m the one to get it done. I can’t speak for someone else and their business practices, but I know what I’m capable of and I got you. My faith is the bold confidence and trust that God has gifted me and anointed me for business and that faith allows me to speak boldly with my clients and win them over.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Your purpose doesn’t change when crisis comes. My purpose is to help people sell, buy, finance, refinance property and when life deals them lemon(s), I help them make lemonade by avoiding foreclosure when they’ve experienced a loss of household income. The real estate market is prone to change. Whether we are in a seller’s market, buyer’s market, or a balanced market. Whether it’s a Covid-19 Crisis or a Housing Crisis? Whether there is an increase in mortgage defaults, a housing crisis prompted by low inventory and or a rise in inflation etc. staying aligned with your purpose ensures that you will succeed in a good market or what some may say is a less favorable market. Staying aligned with my purpose in the mortgage and real estate industry allowed me to make the most money in the worst housing markets of my lifetime up to that point and it has increased ever since. How was that? Crisis and obstacles don’t change our purpose but they may require us to pivot in how we do things. I trusted God and his purpose for me in the mortgage and real estate industry had not changed and I was favored and privileged to bring favorable outcomes for my clients for their unique needs and he equipped and furnished me with all the things necessary to pull it off in my specific areas of expertise.
Operating in your purpose is not always easy but it’s definitely worth it and pays huge dividends. God not only gives his stamp of approval when we stay in purpose for His purpose he also guarantees the outcome is positive. If you ever find yourself tempted to run from your purpose because it may seem hard, you experience a crisis or it is not panning out quite like you thought in the timeframe you remember that you are someone’s answered prayer and they are staying up all night looking for a resolution that you hold.
