Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirstie Crowder
Hi Kirstie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I had originally studied psychology and began a career working as a clinical assistant for multiple in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation programs for young adults. In these roles, I had always emphasized the importance of self-care to my patients and encouraged them to practice simple self-care rituals in hopes that these seemingly trivial practices and habits would then blossom into a deeper self-love that reverberates throughout every aspect of their lives. The results of my methods proved true. Time and time again, I had witnessed the healing and transformative power of a consistent and disciplined prioritization of self-care. These experiences eventually led me on a long but gratifying journey which have culminated in the creation of Solstice Skin Studio. My overall goal in this creation is to unite the lessons I learned as a clinical assistant with my gift of facial sculpting to create a healing and transformative experience for my clients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the road has been windy, but so rewarding. It has been full of scenic drives with the windows down, and it’s also had many brief periods of heavy traffic in a rainstorm. I have had my fair share of people who have belittled me and made me feel small. I have had interactions with people in this industry I thought I idolized, who ended up being the ones who made me question this industry as a whole. I have had moments where I have cried in my car after working a 12 hour day with my hands but didn’t make enough to put gas in my tank and get groceries. However, I have also had a small group of people who have elevated me, celebrated me, and given me the confidence in myself to realize I am not small, but a passionate and creative force who could really do this. Those people and those moments of encouragement are what have brought me here today, shared a little bit with those who didn’t believe in me as well, who I also have to thank for getting where I am today.
I think like anything else, if it were easy, everybody would do it. While I would not classify my journey thus far as “easy” by any means, it’s been fueled by passion to perfect my craft, and a desire to curate a practice and a space that betters peoples lives, and that has kept me going during the rough times and kept my foot on the gas during the good. I feel like I am only just starting to unlock the opportunity I have to do good in this space, so I am excited to continue to grow with my business.
We’ve been impressed with Solstice Skin Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Solstice Skin is my little skin studio that is curated to feel as though you are coming home after a long day, and you are being met by healing hands ready to soothe and nourish your skin and relax your mind. In our serene sanctuary, we aim to create a calming escape where both skin and soul are cared for, fostering healing, relaxation, and holistic well-being through the purest of esthetician practices and products.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love being able to hold space for someone who needs pure nurture and care. I don’t like to call my treatments ‘facials’ because they are SO much more than that – it is a full somatic experience. The moment my client is on the table, all their worries and stressors are put aside during the time that they carved out for themselves. It is the most beautiful thing to see.
I also love all the brands I have built relationships with in this field. I get to nourish the skin with the most beautiful botanical ingredients. The scents alone of each product used are so incredibly special & the results are even more special.
I can genuinely say there are no dislikes. I am so wholeheartedly obsessed with what I do and that will never change.
