Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedy Roberts.
Hi Kennedy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
KAR Creative really started as my freelance career. After working as an in-house digital communications manager for a few years, I decided that I was looking to expand my horizons and find more creative diversity on a day to day basis.
When I first left my full-time job to freelance full-time, I was focused on providing social support for small to mid-sized health and wellness brands. Throughout that process, I learned a lot about the creative needs that smaller teams are looking to fill and started to try my hand at lots of different things. From photography to web design to email creation – my goal was to always say yes and to pick up as many hard skills as I would need to create what I wanted to create.
Eventually, I realized that in order to really effectively provide these services to my clients, I was going to need a team. And so I started to build what KAR Creative is today – which is a creative studio focused on providing human first creative.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The most notable bump in the road was probably COVID – 19 – I know I’m not alone in that. At the beginning of the pandemic, the majority of our business was focused on Food and Beverage brands sold at the grocery store. When the world shut down, most of our clients were prepared to see a large decline in sales on luxury grocery goods and the flow of work reflected this fear. Like most people, we went from thriving one day to having very little work the next. Eventually, we were able to use this as an opportunity to grow creatively and build our business more thoughtfully. But like most can relate to, it was an incredibly scary time.
As you know, we’re big fans of KAR Creative. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a full-service creative content and web studio. Basically, we create your business’s digital presence from end to end, which can include everything from branding to social media content and strategy, to your website, to your digital imagery. We are known most for upbeat creative content in the health and wellness space (including skincare, food, beverage and supplements).
What sets us apart is really our approach to creative. When I started KAR Creative, I had recognized that despite the need for more digital content than ever before, the creative economy hadn’t shifted with this need. It was still bogged down by the mentality that you needed to function the exact way that any other 9-5 business does – and I know, as a creative myself, that most creatives thrive when they are empowered to explore, try new things, hone their craft and ultimately say no. So we built KAR as a human first creative studio – designed to create space for creatives to do all the things that we believe make them best in class. We work with cross-functional collaborators who are the absolute best at what they do and provide them an environment to thrive in. This also gives our clients an opportunity to create their vision in a way that feels less like work and more like play.
We love creating with any brand that is passionate about what they do and looking to create their digital home online – even if you have no idea where to begin – we can help you strategize on what is best and how best to spend your resources and time for the most digital success.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I’ve actually been thinking about my first film camera a lot lately. It was one of those skinny little 90’s polaroids that produced keychain size images. I just remember wanting it sooooo badly and when I got it having really no idea what to use this little camera for. Every so often, we still stumble upon some random image I took of the ceiling or a Barbie and it always sparks a good memory of how I saw the world back then. Funny to think that before I even knew that I could be a creative or photographer for a living, it was something I was so innately drawn towards.
