Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenia.
Hi Kenia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up as a first-generation Latina in a single-mother household profoundly shaped me. Watching my mother give everything, while simultaneously navigating the generational wounds caused by a father’s absence, put me on a path of service.
Although I started in nursing, I was gently redirected to psychology, where I saw the power of helping people through their deepest struggles. For years, I worked in community mental health, which highlighted the immense need for better systems. I’ve always felt a deep connection to my great-grandmother, a knowing that she is guiding me on this path of remembrance and healing.
The ultimate inspiration came after becoming a mother myself; my daughter gave me the final push to pursue my own vision. Now in private practice, I get to create the safe, nurturing, and empowering space I always wished existed, with a focus on connecting mental health, physical health, and the energetic body.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been learning how to find the right language to truly reach the people I’m meant to serve. As a business owner, there’s also a unique kind of vulnerability. Putting yourself out there, representing your own name and vision, rather than working under someone else’s is stretching, but deeply rewarding. There have also been very practical hurdles, like building my website, navigating health insurance panels, and simply learning the ropes of running a business. Accessibility is always one of the biggest challenges, so I work to ease that burden, by offering out-of-network services that help clients receive reimbursement, making therapy feel more within reach.
And, of course, motherhood adds another layer. With a two-year-old, I’ve had to let go of my old way of working and studying, and instead create new rhythms. Finding childcare, planning activities for her, and balancing all of that while continuing to grow as a therapist to provide quality care. Each of these challenges has stretched me, but they’ve also made me stronger and more aligned with the practice I’m building.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Flourishing Insight Therapy?
Flourishing Insight Therapy was created with women in mind, especially the first-generation women I call the guerrilleras of the family. These are the women who carry so much, who hold space for others, and who often sacrifice their own needs to support those around them.
My deepest wish is to provide a place where clients can finally rest. We live in cycles of self-neglect, often tied to burdens we’ve inherited, and my work is about breaking those ties. My practice is somatically focused because the body keeps the score; emotional wounds and transgenerational stress are literally stored in our cells. Through this exploration, and with tools like biodecoding, we can understand how those long-held wounds manifest, sometimes even as physical illness, and then we can begin the process of releasing them. This isn’t just for the client, but for the freedom of future generations.
My ultimate goal is to connect people with their inner wisdom so they can face life’s challenges with confidence and live in alignment. I’m most proud of bringing this awareness and support to mothers, both through my practice and by embodying it myself.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Building Flourishing Insight Therapy while navigating my postpartum journey taught me a level of strength I never knew I possessed. I’m forever grateful for the love and belief of my partner. But the most important lesson was realizing the power of personal guidance and faith; trusting that higher wisdom gave me the courage to take the risks necessary to see Flourishing Insight Therapy grow beyond my wildest expectations.
