Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Hackett.
Hi Kate, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Kate’s Tutoring (www.katestutoring.com) after I noticed how many students struggled not because they were “bad” at any given subject, but because they didn’t have the tools to learn effectively. I tutored part-time while pursuing acting and I saw the same pattern in so many of my students: bright, capable kids who just needed someone to break things down in a way that made sense to them.
I started Kate’s Tutoring to help reach families and word spread quickly. Now we help families across the country with everything from algebra and chemistry to writing and history. We also run a full suite of college app + test prep assistance, which is so rewarding and exciting.
I’ve been really fortunate to have a lot of organic growth — no flashy marketing or gimmicks — just a reputation built on results, trust, and a lot of individualized support. My goal has always been to help students feel more confident and independent, not just to pass the next test.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the biggest challenge is simply seeing them fly off on their own. That’s always the goal, of course, but it can be sad to say goodbye when you develop a strong rapport with a kid (and their parents).
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kate’s Tutoring?
Kate’s Tutoring (www.katestutoring.com) provides personalized, one-on-one academic support for students from elementary school through college. We focus on more than just grades — we help students actually understand what they’re learning and develop the skills to tackle new challenges with confidence.
We work with students across all major subjects, including math, science, writing, and test prep, as well as executive functioning and college application coaching. What really sets us apart is the level of customization and communication. Every session is tailored to the individual student — their pace, their learning style, and their goals. Parents appreciate that we’re honest, reliable, and focused on long-term growth, not just quick fixes.
I’m proud that most of our new students come from word-of-mouth referrals. That kind of trust means we’re doing something right. At the end of the day, our goal is simple: to make learning less stressful and more empowering.
If readers take one thing away, I hope it’s that tutoring isn’t just for struggling students — it’s for anyone who wants to feel more capable, organized, and confident in school.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
None.
This isn’t luck.
