Inspiring Conversations with Jessy Elena Morales of The Magical Atelier & Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessy Elena Morales.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello!
My story is one of being surrounded by
nature and fabric snd textures and color from when I was a child in my mothers Atelier on 7th & Spring . Me and my sister loved to help out and I was so mezmerized by all the colors!
I always knew I wanted to work children , I studied Chikd Development and became a preschool teacher and worked in both private and public schools in the Westside. I was the preschool teacher that was doing a lot of art with the children and o loved seeing what they created by using the paint or materials that I put out .
I discovered how creative children are when given the opportunity. I loved seeing throughout the years how children llover to create their own art . From their perspective not from adults perspective. No patters or cutouts just allowing children to put their ideas together and use their imagination.
I studied a minor art and studied psychology this helped me understand children and people better and inspired me to bring in different materials for children to use
With my 30 career working with children I came to understand them very well . I know what children love, and how unique each child is . Some may use a bit of psint for example and others paint with their whole hands and arms!:)
I have been a children’s art teacher for the past 16 years, about 5 years ago I was given the opportunity to open up a studio in the westside. This is my very first business and as a Latin woman I’m very proud and grateful to everyone who helped me accomplish this.
I didn’t know anything about business, but there were a few wonderful people who believed in me . They guided me through the whole process. I’m very grateful to my family who also helped me with most of the furniture and assembling tables and chairs.
My friends in thd community came and helped to paint. We now run a successful. Children Art Studio in Santa Monica. and our customers have spoken and they have loved our work. 🙂
It’s amazing to be able to do children’s parties and clases and see family and friends come together to celebrate ! Our studio is a wonderful place where children and families are welcomed . Hospitality and customer service is high on our list , we msje sure that people feel welcomed.
I’m very grateful to my community and to be able to have an art studio in a community that I worked for many years. It’s a dream go e true! My 3 daughters all work for the studio as well as other family members. It had a become a family business!:)

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. As we opened in the art of the pandemic . For close to a year no one knew us. It was hard to pay Al l rent and bills .
Other obstacles we faced at the beginning was not fully understanding
the accounting aspect . I had to reach out to my community and resorted to help me with that. As well as having a business manager and accounting have been important and a learning experience.
It hadn’t been easy at times financially when it’s the Holidays and it’s not as busy . Also , learning about resources to help women in small business has been helpful.

Our Business is a children’s art studio & boutique . We specialize in rodilleros, preschool , and school age
Parties. We do parties at our studio in Santa Monica , and parties on location too.
We’re known for allowing children to use their imagination and create what they like with the paint or materials we put out . We do sone technique with school age children and ofcourse we allow them to do art as they like.
I think what sets us apart in children’s art is that we’re teachers with a Chikd Development background and we under children development .
We know what children love ! We know they like to tell paint , water, glue etc.. We are know for glitter we use lots of it !! Glitter and sparkles are a big part of our brand . Children know we are found to let them create their own art. Example : not all the unicorns need to look the same or maybe they decided it’s not a unicorn! They decided to paint the grass pink or blue
.. and that’s great because we know it’s great for their creative development and social emotional wellbeing ti be able to express themselves through art .
We’re known for allowing children to get messy if they want to! Paint what you like ! What brush would you like? Etc..
I feel children do know when the teachers are respectful of their art and give them the soace to do it.
I have geidd we n up students that tell me teacher Jessy I removed when you face paired me or when you would do art with us! That’s very heartwarming. Making a difference in children’s lives through art .
At our studio we let children and parents know .. do something that you love to do . Something you’re passionate about! The rest will fall into place when you find something that you love to do!:)
