Inspiring Conversations with Jason Sewer of Drone Strategic Partners LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Sewer.

Hi Jason, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
If you told me twenty years ago that I’d go from climbing on storm-damaged roofs to commanding robotic dogs and drones from a remote command center, I’d have laughed. But that’s exactly what happened. My career began in the world of insurance adjusting — boots on the ground, clipboard in hand, evaluating millions in storm, fire, and water damage. It taught me how chaos works: how fast it spreads, how much it costs, and how fragile security really is. But it also gave me perspective. I saw the same pattern across countless claims — theft, vandalism, unsafe worksites — all “preventable losses.” That phrase stuck with me.

After decades in claims, I realized I was always showing up after the loss. I wanted to be there before it happened.
That idea became Drone Strategic Partners (DSP) — a company at the intersection of security, robotics, and risk management. We deploy autonomous drones and robotic dogs that patrol properties, construction sites, and high-risk environments 24/7. They don’t take breaks, don’t call in sick, and stream live data back to our command center in real time. For our clients — from builders to insurers — it’s not science fiction. It’s loss prevention, redefined.

But DSP isn’t just about tech. It’s about people and purpose. We bring this same technology into schools and workforce development programs — teaching students how robotics, AI, and automation are changing the world of safety, security, and jobs. Watching a high school student operate a Boston Dynamics-style robotic dog for the first time — that’s the spark. That’s the moment they see their future.

We’re also tackling one of the toughest topics in today’s world — active shooter awareness training — using technology to create practical, realistic drills for employees, students, and facility teams. Not fear. Preparation. From construction sites to classrooms, I’ve learned that innovation means more than cool gadgets. It means solving problems people stopped trying to solve.

The same curiosity that made me a good adjuster now drives me as a CEO: always asking “Why not?” Why can’t security be smarter? Why can’t robotics inspire the next generation? Why can’t prevention be profitable?
At DSP, we’re answering those questions every day — one patrol, one partnership, one student at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth? Not even close.

When you’re building something that challenges how people think about safety and security — especially with technology—you’re not just selling a service. You’re asking people to unlearn habits that have been ingrained for decades. That’s not an easy ask.

Getting people to buy into technology as a solution (literally and figuratively) has been one of the toughest parts. Many decision-makers still picture “security” as a guard standing post, clipboard in hand. The idea that a robotic dog or autonomous drone can patrol, detect threats, and report in real time takes a major mental shift. They love the “wow” factor when they see it, but converting that excitement into real adoption, contracts, and policy changes is another battle entirely.

And then there’s the red tape—layers of it. In the corporate world, it’s risk departments and liability fears. In education, it’s compliance and district approvals. In the public sector, it’s procurement cycles, outdated regulations, and politics that move at a glacial pace. Everyone says they want innovation — until it comes time to cut through bureaucracy to actually implement it.

On top of that, budgets are always a challenge. Whether it’s a construction firm, a school district, or a city department, everyone recognizes the need for better protection, but funding tends to follow loss, not prevention. Convincing decision-makers to invest proactively, before something goes wrong, is often the hardest sell of all. Plus, you have to fight the urge people have to take the cheapest route to solve the biggest problems.

Still, every “no” sharpens our strategy. Every barrier teaches patience, persistence, and creativity. And every “yes”—every pilot program, every converted skeptic, every student inspired—is proof that the struggle is worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
