Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Crystal I. Lee.
Hi Dr. Crystal I., we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After working numerous years at a non-profit running a life skills coaching and independent living residential, I decided to return to my roots of doing individual therapy and open my own private practice. I began by providing in-home/on-site services, primarily working with neurodivergent emerging adults who were struggling to become more independent. That soon expanded to include neurodivergent adults struggling in other aspects of their life, such as their career and relationships. Over time, I noticed that many adults were not being accurately diagnosed or identified as autistic or an ADHD-er, so I began to shift focus to providing therapeutically-oriented, neurodivergent-affirming adult autism and ADHD assessments for those typically overlooked by traditional neuropsychological testing (e.g., identified female at birth, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, gender expansive). As I shifted my focus to primarily conducting assessments, I hired other licensed psychologists to continue providing high-quality, neurodivergent-affirming therapy. I still provide in-home/on-site services, but now as half-day and whole-day intensives, for very targeted, high-impact work.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have been very lucky to have had a smooth road with my business. Because I had the foresight to provide teletherapy for several years even before the pandemic hit, I was able to smoothly and easily transition my practice to 100% virtual in 2020.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a neurodivergent-affirming therapy and assessment practice, focused on providing high-quality, individualized care for autistic adults and adult ADHD-ers. What sets us apart, aside from being one of the first 100% neurodivergent-affirming care focused practices in California, is that all of our clinicians have doctorates and are licensed psychologists. Additionally, each of our psychologists have further specialties, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, executive coaching, adolescents, family therapy, and mixed neurotype couples therapy.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have so many fond childhood memories, but I will always remember playing outside in the woods and creeks by my house back in Austin, Texas. The sense of wonder and freedom was amazing, and being surrounded by nature was so healing and grounding.
