Inspiring Conversations with Ciara Langston of MODERNLY EVER AFTER

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciara Langston.

Hi Ciara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I became a surrogate in 2012. Being one of the few Black surrogates I knew at the time,, and through that experience, I had the opportunity to interact with many families. I quickly noticed a lack of communication and support from agencies, both for intended parents and surrogates.
That experience inspired me to create something different. Around 2015–2016, I set out to start an agency that truly supported everyone involved, but at that time, it felt like no one was willing to help or even point me in the right direction. Fast forward a few years, and in 2019, my best friend (now co-owner) and I decided we were going to figure it out ourselves, how hard could it be, right?
Then 2020 came, and like everyone else, we had to pause because of COVID. But we didn’t give up. In 2021, we officially relaunched as Modernly Ever After, now proudly the only Black-owned surrogacy agency on the West Coast.
Our program is designed to ensure that both intended parents and surrogates are fully supported from start to finish and even beyond that. The road to get here wasn’t easy, and along the way, it was disappointing to hear so many stories of people being mistreated or left unsupported. That’s exactly why we do what we do.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Navigating through a non-regulated industry while striving to always uphold strong ethics, morals, and integrity

We’ve been impressed with MODERNLY EVER AFTER , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Modernly Ever After is a full-service surrogacy agency dedicated to guiding intended parents and surrogates through one of the most meaningful journeys of their lives, building families. We specialize in providing a personalized, transparent, and compassionate experience from the very beginning of the process all the way through delivery and beyond.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to human connection and inclusive care. As the only Black-owned surrogacy agency on the West Coast, we take pride in creating space for all families , especially those who have often felt unseen or underrepresented in the fertility industry. Our program is intentionally designed to ensure that both intended parents and surrogates feel supported, heard, and valued every step of the way.
We’re known for our hands-on approach, open communication, and strong focus on education and emotional well-being. We don’t just match families. we build relationships that last well beyond the birth.

What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, Modernly Ever After plans to continue serving the community that we value so deeply. Our focus remains on expanding access to surrogacy education and support, especially for families and women who have historically been underrepresented in this space.
We’re excited to grow our programs, strengthen our partnerships, and continue being a trusted resource for intended parents and surrogates alike. Every step forward is guided by our mission to make parenthood possible while fostering compassion, inclusivity, and transparency in everything we do.
At the end of the day, our greatest goal is simple: to keep serving the community that has trusted us, believed in us, and inspired us to keep going.
