Inspiring Conversations with Christy Faison and Jami Rudofsky from The Village Acting Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Faison and Jami Rudofsky.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It’s always great to meet someone who shares your passion, and that’s exactly what happened when we first crossed paths. As Casting Directors and acting teachers, we quickly realized that we had a lot in common, especially when it came to our love of actors. We both believe that when actors feel supported and valued, they are able to do their best work.

That’s why we decided to create a studio that would foster this belief. We knew that our combined knowledge of the audition process and the industry would be invaluable to actors, so we made it our mission to share our insights and help them succeed.

Working together has been a great experience for us. We approach our work from different perspectives, but we share the same goal – to create a safe and supportive environment where actors can thrive. Whether we’re casting or teaching, we always put the needs of the actors first.

We like to say: we’re not just teachers; we’re community builders. That’s why we’re called The Village.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We opened the studio about a year and a half before the pandemic, so we were still in our infant stage. The classes we offered were full and we were starting to grow. Once the lockdown happened, we shifted our focus to online classes and made sure our current students had a safe space to be creative and continue honing their craft. It was important to us that they had an escape from the chaos of the world. Once things started to open up, we found a beautiful studio that we absolutely fell in love with and began offering in-person classes. However, it felt like we were starting from scratch since we had to rebuild our community. One of our biggest challenges has been marketing and getting our name out there. But we’ve learned that word of mouth has been our best tool! We simply focus on doing what we love – teaching and arming our actors with the tools they need to succeed in their careers.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Opening The Village was a huge risk, but we knew we had something special to offer. Even though the market is saturated, we believe in our unique approach. We put everything we had into this business, financially, emotionally, and physically. It wasn’t easy, but we knew it was worth it. We were starting at zero, but we had already established classes, which gave us a head start. We are proud of what we have to offer – industry and casting knowledge, passion, and a supportive community for actors to succeed. While there are no guarantees in life, we are confident that our studio is a place where actors can thrive.
