Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelley Hoag.
Hi Kelley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After working with children with Autism for years using behavior-based interventions, I started to realize these same principles could actually be applied in my own life. I noticed that my habits could shift in a positive direction if I practiced what I preached with my clients, using the concepts of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
As someone who has always been passionate about mind/body health and holistic wellness, I decided to branch out and bridge the gap between the science of ABA and intuitive, authentic habit change. I completed my Master’s of Science in ABA, quit my job, moved back home, and immediately began the coursework to become a Certified Integrative Health Coach. In doing so, everything I thought I knew about my body, my health, my habits was questioned. I tried every diet because I thought I was supposed to. I packed my mornings full of shoulds. I did things I hated because I thought I was supposed to, I had no self-connection and I lacked inner trust and knowing. I felt completely lost, gave myself multiple eating disorders, gained wait and disconnected entirely from who I was at my core. I knew if I wanted to help others, I had t get out of this hole.
So, I dug deep and let go of all rigidity. I used my tools, the ones I had degrees in and learned in the field, but, above all else, I strengthened my intuition. I illuminated the missing piece of behavior change – subconscious beliefs. This helped me increase my self-worth, undoubtedly follow my intuition, and create a life of grounded ease and innate truth. I learned how to love my body, to feel confident, strong and in control and to completely trust myself. I got to the other side in a way that’s sustainable and now, effortless. And now I’m here to help my clients do the same from a place of complete authenticity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I alluded to multiple eating disorders, feeling disconnected, not trusting myself. This was all a result of being bogged down by shoulds; podcasts, peers, Instagram, articles. I stopped listening to what I needed, what my intuition was asking for, and focused instead around what I thought I should be doing to feel healthy, successful, empowered, confident. But, it only led me further away from my own truth. Ultimately, I found I didn’t like myself very much. I distracted and numbed quite often, whether it be with food or relationships, and I ended up costing me a lot. I was only really able to fully connect within, recalibrate and ultimately find who I really was after a tough breakup. I once heard “You don’t know who you are until someone you love leaves you and you don’t know what you’re made of until you’re forced to leave someone you love.” I couldn’t agree more.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Root to Rise is a service-based wellness brand dedicated to helping men and women create a life of alignment by way of research-backed and intuition-led techniques. I work with high-achievers to create sustainable success and emotional equilibrium by combining Applied Behavior Analysis principles and intuitive embodiment practices. I think of myself as offering the personal connection of a friend and advocate with the proven, practical solutions of a behavioral therapist. This differentiation forms lasting, collaborative partnerships based on empathy, trust and mutual learning rather than a coaching-based partnership stemming from punishment or shame.
I offer a variety of partnership options including multiple 1-on-1 options, a community support offering and DIY resources, meaning clients can choose the level of involvement that’s right for them. I’m extremely passionate about community and also host weekly events (meetings, workshops, etc.) that my clients have access to, and are open to both a membership platform and the general public. This creates an additional support system, plus reinforces my holistic approach by inviting in different perspectives so we can all grow and expand together.
How do you define success?
Living an authentic life from a place of innate wisdom by following our intuitive compass. It will always steer us in the right direction, and our success will be obvious by way of happiness, trust, deep connection and freedom.
