Inspiring Conversations with Beverly Ali of Ali Math Tutoring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beverly Ali.

Hi Beverly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love for mathematics- I spent eight years of my life studying it! While teaching at various colleges, I noticed that students were lacking basic math, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Most students already had a preconceived notion that “Math is Hard” and either had no interest in it or never had someone make them feel confident in their ability to derive at the solution to various math problems. I wanted to create an experience for students to feel more confident in their mathematical abilities.

I started Ali Math Tutoring in 2015. Our first Clients were in Columbus, Ohio. We have expanded and are now based in Los Angeles, CA.

We offer math tutoring sessions virtually. Our virtual lessons are available to anyone, anywhere. Most of our Clients get the 1-1 in-person tutoring (depending on the location). During these unprecedented times, we strongly encourage our L.A. Clients to take advantage of the virtual tutoring, if possible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has NOT been an easy road. The truth of the matter is- you are relying heavily on the availability of your Clients. There are times when you may have all of your regulars clients cancel in a single week simply because LIFE HAPPENS. Fortunately, we at Ali Math Tutoring are very understanding.

I am constantly reminding myself that “the only way to lose is if you stop trying”. I try to stay positive, resilient and determined through the ups and downs. This mentality is very rewarding.

We’ve been impressed with Ali Math Tutoring, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Ali Math Tutoring primarily serves the Los Angeles Community. We offer math tutoring to students who need to enhance their math skills, prepare for an upcoming test and/or struggling in math. Ali Math Tutoring has proven to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving ability. To add, we have gotten feedback that students’ grades are significantly improving. With that being said, we have significantly grown because of referrals and/or a simple Instagram search.

As we continue to grow, we hope to maintain and build the relationships we have with our students to witness them successfully lead into promising careers.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has only worked for me at the Casino. I have had no luck in this business. It has been all about hard work and building strong relationships.
