Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Melendez.
Hi Tatiana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am Tatiana T. Melendez, a Licensed Psychotherapist and Clinical Sexologist/Sex Therapist, and the founder and CEO of TTM. My journey has been deeply shaped by my personal experiences with pain, loss, and resilience. I grew up in Compton, where my father struggled with heroin addiction. I never knew if I would get the loving dad who combed my hair and cooked dinner, or “Frankie J,” the addict consumed by his high. When he later contracted HIV from sharing needles, the instability in my childhood deepened. Those experiences left me with heartbreak and uncertainty, but they also gave me a determination to rewrite my story.
Adulthood wasn’t easier. I became a single mother, lost my mother and father to cancer, and had to hold my family together while caring for my daughter and siblings. My daughter became my anchor; the reason I kept pushing forward. At just 14, I started working in social services as a teen advocate, and over the years I rose through the field, serving in investigations, directing and building clinical programs, and eventually creating a space of my own.
Today, I lead TTM, a behavioral and mental health practice that now functions in over 40 states and is credentialed with more than 30 private insurances and EAPs. We specialize in strength-based, culturally competent care, helping individuals navigate trauma, grief, depression, addiction, and more. My mission is simple: to empower others to build resilience and stability so they can create lives filled with the peace and hope I once longed for.
For me, the sun rises and sets in the eyes of my daughter. Everything I do—professionally and personally—is grounded in that promise: to live fully, to lead with empathy, and to use my story to help others heal.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Deep betrayal existed even from those I loved the most, and I’ve shed countless tears and endured real heartache along the way. Still, I refused to let those experiences define me. I kept pushing forward; pursuing multiple degrees and continuing to invest in my growth, even when the weight of life felt heavy.
One of the biggest leaps of faith I ever took was walking away from a secure job I held for 10 years. I stepped out on faith, accepted lower pay, and committed myself fully to building a diverse practice. Within six months, that leap paid off. I had doubled my income and created something far more meaningful than a paycheck. None of it would have been possible without the support of an amazing team that I’m truly grateful for.
At the same time, I was raising my daughter and navigating life’s trials and tribulations, balancing motherhood with leadership and service. Those challenges tested me, but they also sharpened me. Every setback, every disappointment, and every sleepless night prepared me to lead with both resilience and compassion; and that’s the spirit I carry into my work every day.

What I want readers to know is this: TTM exists for you. Whether you are seeking healing, clarity, resilience, or a safe space to explore your mental, emotional, or sexual health, our dedicated team is here to walk alongside you with compassion, wisdom, and understanding.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is to understand that the road won’t always be smooth and that’s okay. You will face rejection, setbacks, and even moments of doubt, but those experiences will shape you into the professional and person you’re meant to become. When I started, I wish I had known that it was okay not to have everything figured out on day one. Progress is built step by step, and consistency matters more than perfection.
I also encourage new professionals to invest in themselves early; whether that’s through continued education, mentorship, or building a strong support system. Stepping out on faith is never easy, but it’s often necessary if you want to create something meaningful.
At TTM, we also believe in opening doors for the next generation of mental health professionals. We provide opportunities for those who want to start their own private or group practice, offering guidance, support, and infrastructure to help them grow. When one of us succeeds, it strengthens the entire field, and we’re proud to be part of that journey for others.
