Hidden Gems: Meet Suvini Jayasekera of Shakthi Vaidya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suvini Jayasekera.

Hi Suvini, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a licensed Acupuncturist and a Herbalist.

My passion for medicine began at a very young age. I was born with an Atrial Septal Defect which ignited my love for learning about the body. One of my favorite childhood memories was learning about the functions of the heart with my father. At the age of twelve, my father passed away suddenly from a heart attack which grew my love for medicine exponentially. I pursued my passion for medicine by getting my Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California Irvine on the Pre-Med path. Instead of going to medical school like many of my peers, I knew I wanted to pursue traditional medicine. After working for two years in clinical research as a study coordinator, I found my path with traditional medicine. After four years, I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Emperor’s College and opened up my own clinic called Shakthi Vaidya.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
All paths that we take in life come with many challenges and surprises. I started out wanting to be a doctor of modern medicine but my path quickly changed to traditional medicine once I learned that there are different resources available to help heal the body.

We’ve been impressed with Shakthi Vaidya, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Shakthi Vaidya emerged the moment I discovered that the current medical system has limited resources to support people with individualized medicine. Today, medical care is one size fits all. People are subjected to treatments with severe side effects that decrease their quality of life.

At Shakthi Vaidya, we specialize in Traditional Chinese Medicine, personalized to each person. I especially love working with pain, emotional imbalances, and menstruation health. I investigate and diagnose the root-cause diagnosis of ailments. I also prioritize disease prevention through assessing family history and early life coupled with evaluating diet and lifestyle along with the current allopathic diagnosis of the illness.

Patients walk away empowered to take charge of their health and wellness. They become in tune with the unrealized power within their own bodies to heal. They’ll discover the importance of balanced nutrition, which, in turn, will improve their quality of life.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck, everything that I have achieved in my life has come from hard work and persistence.
