Hidden Gems: Meet Susy Vigil of VigilAir Heating and Cooling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susy Vigil.

Hi Susy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Robert Vigil attended Universal Technical Institute straight out of high school. The program lasted 1 year and soon after completion the program, he started working for an HVAC company. From 18-23 years of age, he worked for several HVAC companies and learned a ton. In 2005, At only 23 years of age he had the required experience and age to apply for the California contractor’s license, and did just that. He passed the contractor’s state license exam the first time and became a contractor at only 23 years old. Soon after Robert began working for contractors and after a few referrals, he slowly began to build his business. 5 years later, the business was picking up and his wife Susy, a school teacher quit her job to help Robert with the office work. With Robert’s focus out on the field and Susy’s in the office, VigilAir grew even more and by 2010, the demand was high enough to hire more people, purchase more trucks and expand! But Robert and Susy chose to not pursue expanding because they clearly understood that they were busy and provided a unique service with an owner operated model, quality products and fair rates. This year, VigilAir is celebrating 20 years of business & despite VigilAir’s growth and demand, Robert and Susy continue to preserve a small family operated business to provide top quality, personal and fair services. Susy & Robert are so happy with their business and humbled to be trusted and hired by so many homeowners.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since we’ve started business, there’s been some challenges such as economic market declines (market crash in 2008). Product shortages & inflation after covid was another battle. Thankfully, the business is small & steady enough to withstand the tough seasons.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about VigilAir Heating and Cooling ?
We are HVAC installations specialists. We are known for installing prestige equipment at fair rates. In 2022 Carrier invited us to represent and deal their brand & we became a Carrier authorized dealer. Carrier looks for good companies and only hires qualified installers with a great reputation, so it was an honor to be considered. Despite offering the most prestige brand in our trade, we continue to preserve a small business model and continue to offer the best experience. At VigilAir, we don’t put quantity over quality. Our priority isn’t to be the biggest company around, it is to serve one family at a time, thus ensuring quality service. We are so proud to have a brick and mortar location to showcase our products and to meet customer to plan their future work.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
We like its diversity and accessibility. People here are nice, supportive and celebrate small business, here. We do not like how expensive homes are. It makes us sad to see young families, having to purchase such expensive homes in our area.
