Stairway to Pizza started from a shared passion for pizza and a dream of building something of our own. As friends with experience in the industry, we saw an opportunity to combine our individual skills and create a business that reflected our vision.

Being Mexican Americans, our journeys were both similar and unique, shaped by our own challenges and experiences. That background not only deepened our connection but also inspired us to bring something special to the table—combining tradition, craftsmanship, and a commitment to quality. What started as an idea quickly grew into a business, and today, we’re dedicated to sharing our love for pizza with every event we cater.

Angel’s creative approach to pizzas is something truly special. His artistic vision brings unique and exciting concepts to life, making you stop and think, “This is someone who truly loves creating and isn’t afraid to push the boundaries of pizza-making.” Meanwhile, Bryan’s work ethic, experience, and technique in stretching dough and running the oven is nothing short of an art form. Knowing exactly when and how to turn the pizza to achieve the perfect bake is a skill he has truly mastered. Ruben’s business knowledge, ambition for success, and drive round out the team, ensuring that operations are not only efficient but also positioned for long-term growth. His strategic mindset helps navigate challenges and seek new opportunities, keeping the business moving forward.

Together, we each contribute in our own way, making Stairway to Pizza a perfect blend of creativity, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurship. It’s this balance of skills and passion that allows us to continue growing and bringing the best pizza experiences to our customers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road—it’s been a constant grind. But we believe anything worth having takes time, effort, and patience.

From the start, we all kept our second jobs while bootstrapping the business, using our savings and any extra money to invest in equipment and materials. Fortunately, we had the support of friends and family who pitched in—whether it was lending us gear, helping with branding and logo design, or offering advice on entrepreneurship.

The hard work doesn’t faze us. We grew up in Mexican American households where work ethic was taught through action. Our parents set the example, sacrificing and hustling to support our families, and we carry that same mindset into our business every day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Stairway to Pizza specializes in pop-up events and catering, bringing an elevated pizza experience to every gathering. With our Mexican American background, we infuse our pizzas with flavors and influences from Mexico—one of the world’s greatest food cultures—while also paying homage to the classic Italian recipes we love.

Our focus is on Neapolitan-style sourdough pizzas, a style we’re passionate about perfecting. While that’s our specialty, we’re always open to exploring different styles in the future. Eventually, we’d also love to expand into subs and pastas as well—because for us, the sky’s the limit.

One of the things we’re most proud of is our brand identity—from our name to our logo and overall concept. Everything came together naturally through conversations, with each of us contributing ideas that just clicked. Thanks to our good friend Jesse Alvarez, an amazing designer, we were able to bring our logo to life, making our brand even more special. It’s been exciting to see it all take shape.

Right now, we love the mobility of our business. Being able to pop up at different locations allows us to connect with amazing people, businesses, and bars, all while sharing our passion for pizza. We’re excited about the journey ahead and can’t wait to bring more creative recipes and experiences to our customers.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
That’s a tough question—kind of like making a great pizza. Every ingredient has to be top-notch for the final product to be exceptional, and the same goes for our business. It’s not just one thing that makes us successful; it’s a combination of key factors working together.

First and foremost, the quality of our pizza and customer service has to be as close to perfect as possible. We are constantly working to improve both, ensuring every experience is better than the last. Our recipes and unique pizza ideas also set us apart—thinking outside the pie and creating innovative flavors that no one else has done before.

Teamwork is another essential ingredient. Each of us brings unique strengths to the business, and without that collaboration, we couldn’t keep the ship running. Beyond just great food, we aim to create a special experience—we want our customers to not only enjoy our pizzas but also feel the energy and vibes we bring wherever we go.

Finally, hard work and dedication drive everything we do. We’re committed to growing the business, aligning with like-minded people and businesses, and constantly pushing ourselves to reach new heights. Just like making the perfect pizza, it’s all about balancing the right ingredients to create something truly special.
