Hidden Gems: Meet Rachelle Haering of Too Many Jackets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachelle Haering.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have loved thrift shopping since I was in high school and it wasn’t until about eight years ago that I started sourcing vintage Levi’s for friends. I am a Makeup Artist by profession, but when the pandemic hit, there wasn’t any work happening, so I had to figure out other ways to bring some income in, as well as keep from going crazy. That’s where Too Many Jackets was born. I literally had too many jackets and began selling my vintage on Instagram. Once it started picking up, I began to source for the shop instead of just for myself.

Since then, I have popped up at local markets, styled celebrities for special events and my pieces have been featured in a national commercial. I am also hoping to open a brick and mortar soon so my clients can shop in person!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This business definitely takes a lot of work. The prep and set up and take down of the markets is so much work that I kind of limit how many I do a year. And all of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into getting the new pieces up and online, is more than people realize. First I have to source the pieces and clean them by hand or have them dry cleaned. Then I have to photograph, measure and describe each piece as well as marketing for all of the pieces and my website. It’s hard work, but it brings me so much joy when people fall in love with the pieces as much as I do.

As you know, we’re big fans of Too Many Jackets. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Too Many Jackets is an online vintage store that specializes in 70’s-90’s eras leaning towards bright colors, patterns and all the sequins. We not only sell vintage clothing on our website, but we offer styling services as well as rental services for studio and production.

Our thoughtfully curated collection is for that client that loves to have fun with their clothes and think outside of the box with a piece they might not have thought would work for them. I love mixing patterns and colors and get excited when a client sees what I see when putting together an outfit. Let me help you sparkle!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I loved fashion as a child, but kind shy, so I let my outfits speak for me.
