Hidden Gems: Meet Noushi Kosari of KURED FUNCTIONAL HEALTH

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noushi Kosari.

Hi Noushi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story started out of curiosity for the world and uncertainty to selecting an undergrad major. I applied as an international business major but quickly learned that the body and its mechanics interested me much more.
I was fortunate to complete most of my education in San Diego. Although I was an undercover nerd, I found a way to enjoy beach life and studying. I completed a Bachelors of Science in Community Health Education then jumped into nursing, seeking more medicine. I became a Med-Surg Registered Nurse, working nights, while completing a double Master’s degree in Clinical Nurse Leadership and Womens Health Nurse Practitioner. I’ve specialized in aesthethics and ozone therapy, but really describe myself as a clinician that incorporates a whole person approach. I utilize medicine with a modern twist.

I’ve been in healthcare for 0ver two decades and my passion continues to get stronger and stronger. What makes me so proud of being a Nurse Practitioner is the versatility and level of human connection you can reach. Like many women, I struggle with the syndrome of carrying-too-much. That is what drew me to women’s health care and strengthened my affinity towards infertility, ob-care and the management of chronic illnesses. I believe with full conviction that the direction of medicine must be integrative, individualized and inclusive of wellness and longevity.

At the age of 17, being a freshman in college, I was offered my first official volunteership as a Reproductive Health Assistant at Planned Parenthood San Diego. Today, I’ve founded Kured Functional Health and have an 11 year tenure with Planned Parenthood Los Angeles. From profit to non-profit healthcare in LA, I understand it all. I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect with my patients and positively contribute to their health journey.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth and easy. From a personal perspective, my immigrant parents moved to the US in their early 30s so they had limited experience in US academia. Obtaining school loans, applications, moving around for clinical rotations… it was clear I was on my own. As a young adult, it was not easy navigating the system and overcoming the barriers while maintaining a high GPA.

Then there are the challenges of healthcare in America. There are so many variables, from insurance coverage, medical history, genetics and ultimately how the person lives and if they succumb to comorbidities. And even then, one of the biggest obstacles is changing human behavior. Life can be hard and to do my job effectively, I must ensure that I remove barriers to care, provide thorough patient education and collaborative treatment plan.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Kured Functional Health is a private practice in Westlake Village, offering both in person and virtual appointments. This practice was created out of pure passion and excitement for getting people better- truly better. What sets us apart is our approach: we use both traditional and non-traditional approaches, treatments and lifestyle interventions to ensure your care is effective and patients see results.

One of the biggest differences at Kured is the time and attention each patient receives. A first time visit can last 1-2 hours, allowing us to develop a plan of care that is fully customized to the individual and their unique needs. We dig into the root causes and address them in a way that is sustainable, cost-conscious and personal.

I am a patient advocate. Healthcare needs evolve throughout life and sometimes advocacy means helping patients navigate appointments, collaborating with other specialists or simply making myself accessible and removing the barrier of time. This practice is not built on volume or quantity, but on quality and empowering patients to take charge of their health.

I specialize in womens, reproductive and sexual health care across the lifespan. Prenatal care, adolescence, fertility, pregnancy options, menopause. Services for both men and women include: mental health care, weight management, wellness and hormone replacement. In the wellness space, we offer a variety of services from ozone therapy, IV hydration, aesthetics and anti-aging and metabolic testing. Ozone therapy and longevity health care are often services most unfamiliar to patients. These tools are tremendously effective for patients that just cannot move the needle or want to preserve their health before things happen.

I often see patients that have failed with other practices… for example, a patient is complaining about fatigue but all their labs “look normal.” Or the couple with multiple failed IVF cycles because of “unexplained infertility.” Week after week, copay after copay, these individuals are struggling, losing their lives and spending lots of money. They do not feel good; something is off but no one can seem to figure it out. How lonely and scary that feels to the patient. Thats where I come in. The mantra of “that is normal for your age” is not good enough. It has never been good enough to me.

I want readers to know I am a patient myself and have experienced many of the same diagnoses they have. From puberty, pregnancy and now my 4th decade of life, our bodies expect and need a lot from us. I would not recommend a treatment that I would not perform for myself or a loved one. Some of the services we offer may be new and unfamiliar, keep an open mind and have grace for yourself wherever you are in your journey.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am a very approachable and honest clinician. I do not believe in the theory that your body attacks itself…I know that challenges a lot of existing medical theories. Lets lay the foundation and start from basics: sleep, diet, stress, lifestyle. Then lets build from there. When individuals get sick, there is usually an event, incident, illness, that moved their bodies’ threshold over the edge and in our time together, we will uncover such things and apply corrections. Medications, big and small, vitamins or Tylenol have side effects and can be toxic. But at what dose? That is what varies for each individual and when we uncover all the key players, we can feel our health being restored. A steps for restoration are not necessarily a pill: 10 minute morning sun exposure upon awakening, high quality supplements and removing trouble foods.

What I want readers to know is the possibility for healing and recovery is possible and within reach. I work with my patients to overcome challenges that would otherwise leave them stuck in their care., such as access, affordability and compliance. Lets use my experience and network of experts to achieve mental and medical wellness and prosperity.
