Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadine Jolson.
Nadine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a famous Al Jolson family member, I often say, “I was born into the entertainment business.”
However, I began my career post the Academy of Art College SF as a creative art director working on accounts such as fashion retailer ROSS and lifestyle clients Il Fornaio Trattoria and Bay Area Vision Centers while at an ad agency in San Francisco. I loved the excitement of the ad business perfectly mixed with high creativity.
Upon returning to Los Angeles in 1988, I was immediately drawn into the entertainment industry. I worked creatively with indie filmmakers designing key art poster campaigns, creating merchandising campaigns for Toyota MotorSports, and major ad campaigns for a top bridal design and retailer.
I always believed that many talented designers could out-design me. However, there were only a few that could out-think me as I was able to apply my background in advertising and branding to a real ‘sixth sense’ of evaluating what clients need and how to execute it for them on a limited budget. So in 1994, I launched my boutique design and marketing company JOLSON CREATIVE, to serve fashion, lifestyle, and entertainment clients.
As my clientele grew, so did their desire to be in the media, so I quickly learned the requirements of PR to pitch story ideas and get into all the good red carpets. Soon after, I expanded to offering design, marketing, and PR services. 25+ years later, I have extensive experience in successful PR and Image Marketing for Entertainment and Lifestyle clientele.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Obstacles have always been an opportunity for growth. As an independent small business owner, I have faced many challenges with matters out of my control, such as the economy, changing trends, clients’ unrealistic expectations, and recently a global pandemic. Fortunately, I have the spirit and determination to pivot as necessary, forge forward and never give up with the unwavering confidence that everything will work out.
As you know, we’re big fans of Jolson Creative Image PR. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am unique as I understand all three aspects of smart design, strategy, and well-presented messaging while executing on all levels. I love developing and elevating a solid image and brand representation on multiple platforms, whether my client is a filmmaker, a product, or a service.
My team at Jolson Creative is a group of seasoned professionals focused on image branding, essential media placements, immersive red-carpet experiences, integrated social media marketing, and responsive ad campaigns. We are best known for crafting custom strategies best suited to the needs of each client.
I offer consultation-only packages where we meet once a week on zoom or in person, collaborate, brainstorm ideas and direction, and guide clients through the process they need.
My most popular package is a “hands-on package,” where I evaluate your projects, business, or products – then work to create a new update, elevated and defined image, and brand. Then we execute on all levels of media placement, creative and marketing materials, and social media integration.
My ‘all-in package” includes all the above plus-immersive red-carpet experiences, media meet and greets, special screenings, product launches, and so much more.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Honestly, I have always been an out-of-the-box thinker and have created and built my own unique brand. For some, they may call that risky, but for me, I call it a wonderful day in my creative life.
When I decided to start Jolson Creative, I knew it was a considerable risk as I would then be reliant on client income, and I wanted to be free of additional pressure to make ends meet instead of focusing on clients’ needs. To solve this, I was savvy enough to ask my employer if I could work for them from home, as I would have time for additional clients. They agreed, becoming a client and giving me the cushion I needed in order to be an entrepreneur with confidence in 1994.
