Hidden Gems: Meet Mike Federis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Federis.

Hi Mike, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey in photography started back in 2005 when I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a Marine. I initially purchased a camera just to capture all my memories and travel while I was in the military. As the years went by, I fell in love with my hobby and now has become my full-time career as a Wedding & Portrait Photographer.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The learning process and breaking into the wedding photography business was definitely not an easy process. The most difficult part of starting a wedding photography business is gaining legitimacy, experience, and building a portfolio. I think the majority of people that get into the wedding business do it as a side hustle because it’s a competitive market. So I actually started shadowing photographers and assisted many seasoned wedding photographers for free. I know from the beginning that for me to succeed in this business, experience was an absolute necessity and I needed to build my portfolio very quickly. I’m super grateful for all the photographers that have given me the opportunities and I try to give back and do the same.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I started Mike Federis Photography back in 2017. I initially started as an event and portrait photographer focusing on families and events.

Eventually, we started specializing in wedding and elopements. We love couples who are family-oriented and adventurous.

We are known for our providing our clients an experience that is based on our values: integrity, commitment, customer service, and honoring their legacy.

Our approach is to capture the natural beauty of the environment and the way you would experience it with your own eyes. Whether your wedding is in a vineyard or at the beach, we want to make sure our editing and color style is capturing the natural colors of the environment. We believe that this way when you look back at your photos, the colors, vibrancy, and details will always be true to what you experienced on your wedding day.

What sets us apart? The many values and experiences I’ve learned from the Marine Corps, I apply and integrate to my business. Once we book a client, we are 100% committed to the end! We communicate on a timely manner to make sure that we are all on the same page and understand our client’s expectations. We are also committed to making sure we photograph your wedding in the utmost professionalism, which means we arrive early, learn the names of your family, and dress professionally.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are always open to work with vendors and other artists that share our same values. We are very selective with the people that we work with to ensure that we share the same beliefs and can help each other beneficially.

My goal since starting my business has always been to serve my community with integrity and honesty. I also live by the following words from the legend Zig Ziglar ” You can have everything in life you want if you will just help other people get what they want.”
