Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Gilboa.
Hi Meghan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was an esthetician working in medical esthetics and wanted to bring the best of skincare to everyone. I founded Facialworks in 2013 to offer clients the best skin care services in a fun and affordable way. Facialworks offers a variety of facials at our facial bar or in our treatment rooms such as dermaplaning, peels, LED and oxygen facials. We are also a top 100 Hydrafacial account worldwide. I’m an ingredient nerd with a passion for clean skincare. I created the Facialworks product line that we use in all of our treatments and available to bring home as part of an effective and sustainable self-care routine. Facialworks product line is infused with CleanSea Complex to help with blue light defense. Our Facialworks On Tap refill bar allows clients to refill their empty products to save money and cut down on environmental waste.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It may look easy but it’s definitely been challenging! There are too many struggles to list them all but it’s always the unexpected problems like floods in stores, covid closures, changing labor markets, etc. In the beginning, finances were tight so things like purchasing new equipment or opening new locations required big leaps of faith that we would succeed.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Facialworks?
Our facials focus on results. Our Facialworks product line utilizes the most effective, proven ingredients with a focus on clean skincare. Our line is free of synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, sulfates, parabens, etc. Our stores perform thousands of facials a month and our products and services are formulated to deliver results for our clients. Our team at Facialworks are all passionate about skincare! Our estheticians go through an intensive training program and continuing education to improve their skills.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
How important it is to be able to pivot. When we had to close our stores, we put our energy into social media and our online presence, with an emphasis on teaching our clients how to give themselves facials at home until they could return. This drove our online sales and really helped us to stay afloat in such an uncertain time. Our clients supported us while we were closed and as soon as we reopened so thankfully, we were able to mount a strong comeback.
