Hidden Gems: Meet Megan Masler and Vanessa Garcia of Wrap Around Baby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Masler and  Vanessa Garcia.

Megan Masler

Hi Megan and Vanessa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Megan started working with the perinatal population as a doula in 2017 and after a few years, convinced Vanessa to take a training and give it a try. She fell in love with birth work and soon both Megan and Vanessa were working in the community as doulas.

We noticed that families didn’t really understand what a doula is/does and that doulas were having a hard time finding jobs on their own. We decided to create a matching service to assist both families and doulas in obtaining services.

One of the goals of our business is to help bridge the gaps between providers and families. No one works in a bubble and we like to help facilitate communication between families and those caring for them. We also provide parenting and breastfeeding classes as well as free postpartum support groups.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been a long journey to get where we are now. It has taken quite a bit of time, advertising, and networking to get the word out that Wrap Around Baby exists and what we do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Wrap Around Baby is a “one stop baby shop.” We specialize in everything pregnancy, baby, and postpartum related. We provide doula matching, nanny matching, parenting and newborn classes, breastfeeding classes, lactation consults, free support groups, and doula training.

What sets us apart from other matching services and parenting classes is that we “bridge the gaps” for parents. It is exhausting having to repeat all the information you get from your pediatrician, OB/midwife, lactation consultant, chiropractic, etc. Hiring a doula that works with Wrap Around Baby allows for communication to be simplified as our doulas assist parents in communicating with the providers. We also train our doulas ourselves so that we can ensure they know what they need to succeed in the profession.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
We are located in Orange County. The best part of the city is that there are a lot of new parent groups and support systems. Some of the least favorite parts of the city are that a lot of the parenting groups cost money to be a part of.

Pricing:

  • Free postpartum support group
  • Doula matching is free for families
  • Nanny matching $750
  • Lactation consults $225, some insurance accepted
  • Parenting classes $100-150
