Hidden Gems: Meet Maddy Rotman of Anytime

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddy Rotman.

Hi Maddy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.

Hi! We’re Maddy & Taylor, two best friends, and co-founders who met in college! We met running a CSA- our friendship started around food, and still every day is rooted in how food & drink can positively change our climate. We’re constantly celebrating delicious flavors, incredible farmers, and dreaming up a better food system.

Today, less than 1% of the alcohol market is organic, and we’re here to change that! We founded Anytime, a female and queer-founded, organic & regenerative alcohol company – to change that stat!

Anytime began as an idea at our home bar in 2020. We were shocked to realize that we didn’t know what was in our drinks– and that was by design. Alcohol products are not required to list ingredients, which is shocking– so we couldn’t tell what core product (corn, rye, wheat, grapes, etc.) were making our favorite drinks, let alone if there were any chemicals or additives in it. Ingredients matter! So, we set out to build a transparent alcohol brand that celebrated organic and regenerative organic agriculture to bring farm-fresh flavor and build healthy soil through our procurement practices – driving real change.

In May of 2023, we launched our Anytime Spritz farm-to-can cocktail line, which has three products: Herby Lime Fizz, Yuzu Ginger Punch, and Cranberry Amaro Splash. And then, in November 2023, we launched Anytime Farmhouse Vodka & Gin – which are the world’s first Regenerative Organic Certified spirits!

We’re on a mission to build the organic alcohol brand that our generation has been looking for- so that we can all drink an organic martini together.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

It’s never easy to go against the grain- there are lots of hurdles. All alcohol labels have to be approved by the TTB (the government agency that regulates alcohol). When we first sent them our Anytime Spritz labels, they sent back our labels since we listed all of our ingredients – They were actually confused why we would do that. They eventually approved our label with our full ingredient list on it- but it’s this kind of hurdle that we constantly are hit with as we try to disrupt a space.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

So many of us are buying organic fruits, vegetables, meat, pet food, and even organic bedding – and yet there are so few organic alcohol brands. Anytime is the regenerative and organic alcohol brand of the future.

Anytime Farmhouse Vodka & Gin which are the world’s FIRST regenerative organic certified spirits. We work with Breathe Deep Farm in Hudson, NY, to grow the most delicious Regenerative Organic Certified ® warthog wheat, which we then stone-mill, grind, mash, ferment, and distill into our beautiful spirits. We’re committed to making handcrafted grain-to-glass spirits that are grown and distilled in the US.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When you’re building a business – you get a lot of advice. We have had to learn (quickly) how to filter all of the advice and know that some advice is bad advice. Trust your gut and hold on to people who give advice that is constructive and supports your vision.

Surround yourself with a diverse set of opinions and people who can help you see different vantage points and visions, but through all of it- use it to further propel your north star vision.
