Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiki Einziger.
Hi Kiki, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For almost a decade, I was the EP at MassiveMusic thats where I met and worked alongside Ben (Einziger) he was a creative director there, in the midst of the pandemic last year we decided it was time to leave the nest. It’s kind of a weird time to jump but working together from home (oh yeah and we’re married with two kids and two dogs) showed us we were ready to start our own studio. Ben came from a very musical background- his mother was an opera singer; his brother is the lead guitarist for Incubus; and at age 23, Ben’s first rock band signed a deal with Atlantic Records. I think I’m more production side savvy — so there’s a nice balance when we work together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think we are both very humbled by the fact that from the day we “opened” the doors to our studio, we’ve steadily been busy. We’ve obviously been doing our jobs for a long time, so we know what we are doing –but to have peers in the industry just say “oh you’re starting your own thing?…here’s some work and here’s some more work”. We feel very grateful, the support has not been lost on us. I think the biggest obstacles we’ve faced so far- is something everyone has been feeling this last year, there’s no separation of work and life at the moment. When you’re facing quarantining from a global pandemic, school closures, and add in launching a company and your business partner is also your husband –there’s just no balance; while we are cooking, changing the baby, walking the dogs, working on a kids school project –we’re discussing work or working its 24/7. The 9-5 has evaporated.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
C A Y A is a music studio. Providing advertising and film clients with services including original composition, sound design, music supervision, sonic identity, and voiceover & final mix. C A Y A stands for ‘Come As You Are’ “However you identify, come to CAYA as YOU. People are inherently unique beings, and oftentimes, insecurity and fears can steer us into uniformity. We encourage our clients to stand out! Authenticity is crucial to our process. We invite you to tell us your story, and together we’ll discover its authentic sound.” I’m most proud that we’re a female and minority-owned company. I’d be proud of that in any climate but especially in our current one. Representation matters and I’m thrilled to have a seat at the table (even if the seat is just in our home office during lockdown)
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any
advice?
In my experience, connecting whether on a networking platform liked LinkedIn or emailing someone in the industry that you admire and reaching out for guidance or advice has always led to a deeper conversation. I truly believe people inherently want to help others succeed. You just have to be willing to ask.
