Hi Joseline, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Konnect Counseling Services during a very tough period of my life, as I was grieving my grandmother’s loss and facing other life challenges. I was working at a community mental health agency as a clinical supervisor, and I was feeling burnt out managing and juggling different hats. I also was missing being a therapist, being in the room with clients, and being a companion in their healing journey. I knew I wanted to be a psychotherapist very early in life, and I always wondered how to help make life easier for the ones around me. I was curious about human behavior and I wanted to make a difference in other people’s life. When I noticed that I had to make a change in my life to take care of myself, I started Konnect Counseling Services with the purpose of first reconnecting with my passion as a therapist and second, assisting others to reconnect with themselves and life itself. After a few years of founding Konnect counseling, I started creating Stream Konnections Academy with the goal of decreasing the mental health stigma in my community and giving people tools to navigate life challenges. We use a unique methodology and make learning fun. As a first-generation female Hispanic immigrant, my goal is to be able to inspire, transmit and provide education to our community because mental health plays a vital role in life.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road; there have been times when everything is smooth and others where I had struggled and I’ve grown from it. I had to learn how to work with different insurance and lease offices and work with the documentation and paperwork of the business aside from the clinical paperwork. I’ve also had to learn boundaries, my limits, and when to seek help. One of the main struggles was facing the fear to be a business owner and be on my own. However, it has been a very fun, growing, and amazing journey. Also, the last two years with the pandemic that we all experienced it challenged therapy and business to a new level. At the same time, it gave me the opportunity to work from any part of the world.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Konnect Counseling Services has been designed to accompany and assist people in their healing journey. Provide a safe environment, free of judgment, culturally competent, integrating all mind-body-spirit, being client-centered and individualizing treatment to the client’s needs. I specialized in trauma work, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationships. Stream Konnections Academy has a greater focus on destigmatizing serious or complex mental health conditions as the prevalence and severity of mental health challenges have soared since the pandemic began, and so too has the need to combat stigma against serious mental illness in the community and the workforce. Mental health-related stigma is a common barrier to care, and going without treatment can mean even bigger repercussions in our community, schools, and work. We provide training and courses for small businesses and also for people in our community.

Faith has always played a big role in my life, and instead of lucky, I would like to say that I’ve been blessed in life and my business. I’ve had people that have been very helpful throughout my journey. During the moments when I needed guidance, I always had a helping hand from colleagues and the people around me.
