Hidden Gems: Meet Jemie Sae Koo, M.a. of Psychable.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jemie Sae Koo, M.a.

Hi Jemie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Seven years ago, my life began to unravel. On the surface, I appeared to have it all — what society would label as “success.” I had a high-paying job, a house, a car, the means to travel, enjoy fine dining, and do whatever I wanted. Yet beneath the surface, my health was rapidly declining. I encountered roadblocks more times than I can count and endured relentless cycles of burnout. Behind the outward achievements, I struggled with a life long battle with depression and anxiety that I had carried since childhood. The constant drive to achieve took a severe toll. My body began to signal distress in ways I could no longer ignore: persistent brain fog, severe fatigue, panic attacks, and night sweats. Despite spending tens of thousands on conventional doctors, trying every Antidepressant, SSRI, fad, treatment, supplement, and diet imaginable, I reached one dead end after another. Relief and resolve remained out of reach.

When I hit rock bottom, it became clear that conventional paths were not enough. That’s when I discovered plant medicine and it was transformative. For the first time in my life, I experienced what it felt like to be free from depression. This encounter became the catalyst for deeper healing and rekindled a sense of purpose I thought was lost forever. I knew I needed to explore this further, not just for myself, but for others who were struggling in their healing journeys.

I immersed myself in studying both the Western approaches in psychedelic therapy and the sacred, time-honored practices of indigenous communities. I earned a Master’s degree in the field of psychology with a focus on psychedelic-assisted therapy, but my deepest lessons came from years of apprenticeship and hands-on experience at the grassroots level. Working closely with indigenous communities, I witnessed their deep wisdom and saw firsthand the powerful healing that unfolds when these medicines are approached with safety, respect and reverence.

This journey led to the founding of Psychable.com. My vision was to create a space where those who felt lost could find trustworthy and reliable information, compassionate practitioners experienced in plant medicine and psychedelic therapy, and a supportive community. Psychable.com is more than a resource; it’s a bridge to a new understanding of mental health that addresses root causes.

Concurrently, in my private practice, I coach and guide individuals to reconnect with their bodies’ innate intelligence, rediscover their inner wisdom, and reclaim their power. Though some have called me a “Medicine Woman,” I prefer the term Holistic Practitioner, as it reflects the interconnected nature of my work. I focus on the mind, body, soul, and spirit, including the subtle, unseen aspects of our existence. This approach is part of my lineage — my great-grandfather was known for his work with plants that facilitated healing to the communities he touched. A legacy I feel running through my work today.

What distinguishes my practice is that it isn’t just theoretical; it’s rooted in lived experience. I know what it’s like to face profound depression and the challenges of navigating life with autoimmune conditions, to exhaust conventional options and feel hope slipping away. Over the past decade of intensive study, research, and practical application, I have completely resolved my own journey with depression and overcome autoimmune conditions. Since then, I’ve supported thousands of clients in achieving transformative change in their own lives.

My journey taught me to look beyond symptoms and focus on addressing the root cause, using a combination of plant medicine/psychedelics, nutrition, supportive lifestyle choices, and a nurturing environment. This integrative approach to healing is what I offer to others: not just temporary relief, but a path to reconnecting with the profound intelligence, vitality and divine power that resides within us all.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has never been smooth, and in many ways, I am grateful for that, as the challenges have shaped everything Psychable.com represents today.

One of the earliest and most significant obstacles was overcoming the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding psychedelics and holistic medicine. Even as research highlighted the immense potential of these therapies, misconceptions persisted. Gaining acceptance from both professionals and the broader community for the safe, ethical, and effective use of psychedelics and plant medicine in mental health continues to demand patience, education, and unwavering commitment.

On a personal level, one of my biggest challenges was overcoming the initial doubt and fear that accompanied my transition from corporate and startup life to a field where I had to be vulnerable and share my own story. Leading a company is one thing; leading with your own experiences of pain, healing, and transformation is another. Sharing that part of myself was difficult, but I knew it was important to show those struggling that I, too, had walked that path.

Building Psychable.com came with its own complexities. Bringing together a diverse team of experts, practitioners, and advocates who shared the same vision was both challenging and rewarding. We needed individuals who not only possessed professional expertise but also understood the importance of compassion, safety, and alignment with our core values. Balancing these elements while scaling a platform to serve a US and global audience was particularly challenging, especially when incorporating indigenous knowledge in a way that honors those traditions and their stewards.

Financial challenges were considerable. Launching a mission-driven platform like Psychable.com, centered on safety and integrity, wasn’t always appealing to traditional investors. However, staying true to our values required a steadfast commitment, allowing us to grow without compromising our core mission and principles.

The weight of the work itself was another challenge. Supporting people who are seeking healing from complex issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, and more requires deep empathy and continuous improvements. This work also involves collecting insights and feedback from the experiences of those we serve and committing to our own inner work, allowing us to continually refine our offerings and better meet ever-evolving needs.

Despite these obstacles, each challenge reinforced the importance of our mission. These difficulties tested us but ultimately made the platform stronger, more inclusive, and more impactful. I learned that true progress comes from confronting challenges directly and remaining steadfast in the vision of a world where safe, informed, and transformative holistic healing is available to anyone who needs it.

We’ve been impressed with Psychable.com, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Psychable.com is an online community and resource dedicated to helping people safely and effectively explore psychedelic-assisted therapy. We connect individuals with practitioners who can support them, while providing educational resources and fostering a supportive community.

What sets Psychable.com apart is our commitment to accessibility and holistic care. We integrate both Western and indigenous approaches to provide a comprehensive solution that addresses mental health issues — such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, addiction, and more — at their root causes.

For individuals, we guide them at every stage of their journey — preparation, treatment/ceremony, and integration — through courses that are self-guided, 1:1, and group-based. Our services extend beyond connections to practitioners; we provide reliable information and resources to empower you to make the most informed decision in your healing journey.

Psychable offers practitioners a directory that serves as a platform to showcase their expertise and connect with clients seeking holistic and psychedelic therapy. The directory helps practitioners expand their reach, build trust with potential clients through profiles and enabling the community to leave reviews, while highlighting their unique services and approaches. Additionally, Psychable provides resources and community support to keep practitioners informed about best practices, safety protocols, and ethical standards, empowering them to deliver exceptional care.

I’m proud of how Psychable.com has prioritized integrity, safety, and support from the start. We are here for those who seek alternatives when conventional methods fall short. Our mission is to make real healing accessible and possible, helping people find meaningful support and to reclaim their lives.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe the most essential quality to our success is resilience.

Over the years, I’ve learned that resilience is more than just pushing through tough times; it’s the ability to lean in, adapt, learn, and grow from challenges, even when the path forward isn’t clear and especially when times are challenging. Starting an organization like Psychable.com in an emerging and sometimes misunderstood space has required unwavering devotion, an abundance of patience, and a willingness to embrace uncertainty.

Another key quality has been empathy. Psychable.com was built to connect with people on a deeply human level, providing resources and support for those on their healing journey. Truly understanding the struggles and aspirations of our community has shaped our platform and guided our approach.

Equally important has been my commitment to deep inner work. By facing my own challenges and willing to do the inner work, I’ve been able to show up authentically and create a space that truly resonates with those who are on the healing path while supporting practitioners who share our mission. This dedication has also empowered me to lead a team and foster an environment built on compassion, safety, and shared purpose.
