Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Hamilton.
Hi Jeff, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since 2015, Dad Academy® has been helping fathers parent with purpose and intention. I’ve spent most of my 35+ year professional career serving families. Along the way, I saw some parents succeed in raising their kids while others struggled. The parents who remained focused on the bigger picture—developing their children’s character—seemed to be able to effectively navigate the joys and challenges that come with raising kids.
In addition to my experience with families, my professional education and training focuses on strategic leadership. I’ve helped organizations align values to mission and create healthy cultures where people thrive. I believe a dad’s mission is to pass on his values and skills to his children. Dad Academy is a tool that helps fathers fulfill their mission, create a healthy family culture, and build a lasting legacy.
Despite my professional experience, I wanted to bring my personal experience to the table. I didn’t develop Dad Academy until my kids had graduated high school and began pursuing their lives with courage and confidence. While I was far from perfect as a parent, our relationship to this day is marked by trust, loyalty, and love. As a result, I felt I could offer encouragement and practical direction for fathers to become the dads they desire to be.
Dad Academy began as an in-person workshop for fathers that was offered in partnership with various churches, schools, and other community programs. In 2020 it was released in an online masterclass format. In June 2025 the workshop was repurposed into a book – Dad Academy: Raising Courageous, Capable, Confident Kids – practical guide for raising children with intention and building a lasting family legacy.
“Men feel most successful when they know what’s expected and have a plan to achieve it. Yet fatherhood is often the one role men enter without a clear strategy,” says Jeff. “There’s no school or orientation to prepare a man for the responsibility and privilege of being the most influential person in a child’s life. Dad Academy helps fathers develop a purposeful plan to transform their children’s lives and strengthen their families.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Dad Academy has definitely been a passion project—one that’s been developing for more than a decade. The heart behind it has always been to give dads tools, language, and encouragement to be more intentional in raising their kids. Today’s dads are far more involved in their children’s lives than ever before, but many are also trying to figure it out as they go. About 25% of men grew up without a father in the home, which means a lot of dads are trying to build something they’ve never seen modeled.
One of the biggest challenges has been getting the resource into the hands of the men who are looking for it. Men want to do a great job as fathers, but often they don’t know where to start or even what to look for. Another challenge is that men tend to struggle through things alone. They often don’t naturally seek out community or admit they need help. That’s why one of the most powerful aspects of Dad Academy is when it’s experienced in a group setting, like a book club or a small circle of dads. When men go through the material together, it becomes more than just a curriculum; it becomes a community of shared growth, where dads learn from one another’s stories and experiences.
We’ve been impressed with Dad Academy®, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dad Academy® helps men develop a plan to parent with purpose and change the lives of their children and families for good. Most men feel most confident when they know what’s expected of them and have a plan to accomplish it. If he’s going to the gym, there’s a plan. If he’s setting a financial goal, there’s a plan. Even a trip to the grocery store usually starts with a plan. Yet fatherhood, the most important role a man will ever have, often begins without one.
Because of the pace and pressure of life, many dads find themselves simply responding to whatever comes their way. At best, they’re reactive to the moments in front of them. At worst, their decisions are shaped by stress, distractions, or limited energy. Dad Academy helps men move from reaction to intention. We guide each man through creating a personalized DadPlan™ that includes clarifying his mission as a father, defining his family’s values and culture, identifying the life skills he wants to pass on to his children, and designing meaningful experiences that build lasting memories.
Dad Academy is available in two formats:
• The Dad Academy Book — Dad Academy: Raising Courageous, Capable, Confident Kids — available through our website or online retailers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
• The Dad Academy Masterclass — an online workshop and workbook designed for individual or group participation.
What sets Dad Academy apart is its practical approach. It’s not just information about fatherhood; it’s a framework that helps men create real, actionable steps to lead their families well. I’m most proud that Dad Academy has become more than a resource—it’s becoming a movement of men who are deciding to parent on purpose.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The success of Dad Academy comes from meeting dads right where they are. The principles we share aren’t theoretical; they’ve been lived out in real life by real dads. The book is filled with their stories—their experiences growing up with or without strong fathers, their insecurities and struggles, and their deep desire to be the best dads they can be.
There’s something for every dad, at every stage, even including grandfathers. It’s honest, practical, and real. I think that authenticity gives dads confidence that they can become the fathers they’ve always hoped to be.
