Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanne Le.
Hi Jeanne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I come from an immigrant family who fled Vietnam during the communist takeover. As a second-generation immigrant, a college education has always been the goal. However, college isn’t cheap and I wasn’t about to go in debt for a theoretical degree. I started my career in retail working from the bottom up and always seeing what opportunities I could maximize. At that point, e-commerce businesses and Shopify were growing rapidly. I reached out to all the independent stores I worked at to see if I could help build a website and grow their business online.
Fast forward a few years, I was 24 and found myself as the youngest and only female in a leadership role at Boardriders as their Global Digital Brand Marketing Director overseeing all global digital marketing efforts, 30 e-commerce websites around the globe, and a 15M follower social account. It was one of the most challenging roles I’ve taken on between traveling and learning on the job while figuring out how to stand my own ground.
Only 3 months before covid, I started Maison Matador Agency. Luckily, the pandemic made brands realize that more than ever, they needed a strong digital presence and an agency that could consult alongside to grow their business. Within the first year, we brought on clients such as: RtA Brand, Russell Westbrook’s Honor The Gift, and Alton Lane to name a few.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Many people may think that it has been an easy road looking from the outside in. However, that has been far from the case. Success often is a highlight reel, but it takes consistency, discipline, and knowing what you want. The first year was hell – I was working 16-hour days to manage my clients while hiring and training new team members.
Oftentimes, people ask me how did I get to where I am today. My answer is: choose your ideal goal, then every day take baby steps closest to your goal and never quit. Consistency and discipline is what will define you apart from the rest.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Maison Matador is a digital brand marketing agency that specializes in both creative and ROI-lead marketing. We focus on brands within the streetwear, fashion, beauty and lifestyle space, representing clients such as Marie Kondo, Russell Westbrook’s Honor The Gift and Dime Mtl.
Coming from both a creative and technical background, our expertise is building compelling stories with ROI-led results. We launch, refine, and redefine global brands through strategy and creativity. In fact, one of our most notable case study includes reviving a well-known LA-based fashion brand from a $500K to $1.2M business in the course of 6 months despite covid.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson is never burn a bridge. Be authentic and always helpful. Be kind, but not necessarily always nice. And always know your boundaries.
