Hillary, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi-C Wellness Retreats came about in 2018, but the seeds were planted much earlier. When I started as a personal trainer in 2015, it became apparent early in my career that just helping people lift weights wasn’t enough to help them reach their goals and truly feel good. I kept hearing the same thing from clients: “I wish I could live with you for a day to see what you actually do.” They’d look at me like wellness was this mysterious, complicated thing that required some secret formula.
But here’s the truth – it doesn’t have to be complicated. Even if you’re busy juggling work, family, and a million other things, you can still stay on track with your goals most of the time. I just needed to show them the way. That’s where the weekend retreats came in.
I realized if I could get these clients away for a weekend – away from the distractions, the excuses, and even their families – they could actually focus on themselves for once. I could teach them simple, practical tips and the basics of nutrition that would help them look and feel better without all the noise and obligations holding them back.
We started small with a group trip to Big Bear one October, and it just grew from there. We’ve done retreats in Palm Springs, Ventura, Big Bear, and I even went back to my hometown in Michigan to host one for family and friends. These weekends have turned into such a powerful experience – a chance for women to slow down, refocus, relax, and relearn (or learn for the first time) the fundamentals of nutrition alongside other like-minded women who get it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Let’s be real – of course there were struggles along the way! The logistics alone for events like this can be a challenge. Finding the right house that fits our needs, accommodating various dietary restrictions, managing different personalities and expectations, dealing with unpredictable weather, last-minute cancellations – you name it, I’ve dealt with it.
There were moments early on when I questioned if I could pull it off, especially when things didn’t go according to plan. But here’s what I’ve learned: perfection isn’t the goal. Connection is.
What has always been really remarkable – and honestly, what keeps me doing these retreats – is how no matter who signs up for the weekend, it always brings together exactly the right people at the right time. These women lift each other up, share their struggles and victories, swap advice and real-life stories, and by the end of the weekend, there’s this genuine sisterhood that forms. That energy, that support system they create together – it’s something you can’t manufacture or force. It just happens when women give themselves permission to show up, be vulnerable, and focus on themselves.
The logistics challenges? They fade into the background when you witness those transformations happening in real time.

Hi-C Wellness Retreats is built on one core belief: sustainable wellness transformations happen when fitness and nutrition become part of your lifestyle, not another chore on your to-do list.
While the retreats are my signature offering, I provide comprehensive wellness services including private and semi-private personal training, online coaching, nutrition coaching, corporate wellness programs, and custom/private retreats. I serve women typically ages 30-70 at all fitness levels – but here’s the key: my clients are ready for real change, not quick fixes. They’re willing to put in the work, and I’m there to guide them every step of the way.

I teach you how to make wellness fit into your real life – with kids, demanding jobs, busy schedules, and yes, social lives. No diets. No foods are off-limits. No unrealistic expectations. Just sustainable habits that actually stick.

I also bring over 10 years of experience as a NASM certified personal trainer, plus certifications as a Precision Nutrition Coach, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, and GGS Pre/Postnatal Coach. This means whether you’re navigating pregnancy, menopause, injuries, or just trying to age gracefully and feel strong, I have the expertise to create truly individualized programs that meet you where you are.
What am I most proud of?
Honestly? The transformations I witness – and I’m not just talking about the physical ones. Yes, clients lose weight and gain strength, but what really fills my cup is watching women reclaim their confidence, energy, and sense of self. I’m proud that I’ve built a brand where women feel safe, supported, and empowered to prioritize themselves without guilt.
