Today we’d like to introduce you to Faryan Jalalabadi
Hi Faryan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I learned from an early age that I wanted to use my hands to do good for people. I grew up playing the piano and competitive sports like football, I loved the thrill of racing cars and wanted to be an Air Force pilot. But I didn’t grow tall enough for the NFL, I eventually needed glasses for my vision (barring entry to the Air Force), and I could not convince my parents to fund a Formula 1 racing career… During a summer break in high school, I saw my first surgery – an open heart surgery. Two surgeons’ hands worked magnificently in concert to repair someones internal anatomy, gifting them more time to spend in this lifetime. I knew in that moment, I was going to help others in a similar way and I fell in love with human anatomy. As I progressed through medical school at the University of Texas, I found myself drawn to the the field of reconstructive plastic surgery – an anatomists dream. I helped rebuild people of all walks of life – old, young, healthy, sick, man, woman, rich, poor. During my plastic surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine, I trained in the heart of the world’s largest medical center in my hometown, Houston, Texas. I helped repair cleft lips, palates and misshaped skulls at the largest children’s hospital in the nation. I rebuilt jaws and faces for cancer patients using extra bones from our legs at the largest cancer hospital in the nation. I tended to trauma victims at one of the busiest hospitals in the nation. There is a reason they say everything is bigger in Texas! The lessons learned and experiences shared with my patients was truly one of the greatest gifts of my lifetime. As I progressed in training – I become more infatuated with the form, function and beauty of the human face. Understanding expressions and in particular, how we aged, became a passion and an obsession. I was accepted to arguably the greatest surgical aesthetic fellowship in the world – here in the heart of Beverly Hills. I learned invaluable injectable and surgical skills from some of the world’s greatest surgeons and minds and began building a practice of my own. I absolutely love the city of Los Angeles and its people. I continue to practice in Beverly Hills and it is my passion to help people understand how the face ages, what you can do at home to slow this process down, what I can offer in the office to address the signs of aging, and how I can reverse them in the most natural, anatomic way in the operating room. It brings me tremendous joy to help people all over the world with the craft I have dedicated my life to.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am blessed to have had a wonderful upbringing allowing me to devote the utmost focus on my academics and passions. Regardless, the pursuit of medicine is one of the most challenging paths a person can take in life from start to finish. When I was younger, I immersed myself in books from Navy Seals, Philosophers and human beings who lived through great challenges. I used this as a way to help get through sleepless schooldays and workdays for a decades. Today’s greatest challenge for me is helping patients navigate through the Wild WIld West of the “Aesthetic Industry.” American capitalism has created an almost 100 billion dollar monster of industry. Practices’ motives are often questionable and the great majority of tools used to “rejuvenate” the face do not make anatomic or physiologic sense in treating how we age. Providers who have a limited toolkit (almost anyone besides plastic surgeons who specialize in the face) and limited knowledge often try to achieve comprehensive facial age reversal in a way where downstream consequences are not understood or discussed. I do not mean this to say do not ever go to any one besides a plastic surgeon, but do understand the limitations of the provider you are going to see. A classic example of this is when addressing age-related volume loss of the face, non-surgical providers are forced to use products they tout will stimulate “your own collagen” to try to build volume. No where in our natural facial anatomy do we have sheets of firm collagen – this can resemble scar tissue… Another popular volumizer is cross-linked hyaluronic acid filler which is an injectable gel and a foreign body that, unfortunately, often results in chronic inflammation, migration of product, lymphatic damage, visible product, etc. There are parts of the face I refuse to inject filler – the under eyes and midface especially. We do not have either of these forms of products in our natural anatomy. Surgeons are able to use extra body fat to transplant to the face when volume restoration is needed. This is the closest tissue match we have available in the field. The biggest symptom of facial aging is soft tissue laxity. Non-surgical providers often try to “lift” tissue by overfilling with volumizers – hence the pandemic of overfilled pillow faces around us. The best and most natural way to put the sagging anatomy back to its youthful position is facelifting surgery – my favorite procedure to preform.
We’ve been impressed with Jalalabadi Plastic Surgery, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a Plastic Surgeon, I have been fortunate to have some of the greatest training in the world in the realm of beauty, aging and aesthetics. My focus is on comprehensive facial aging and helping patients achieve the most natural and attractive versions of their youthful appearance. I offer services that most in the Aesthetic Industry cannot deliver when it comes to addressing the three ways our face ages – skin, facial volume, and tissue laxity. The key to staying the most natural looking version of yourself it to respect each of these categories when offering treatments. My bread a butter treatments include Botox and other Neuromodulators, Microneedling, Lasering, Filler Dissolving, PRP/PRF injections, Fat Transfer, and Lifting Surgery (Neck, Face, Brows, Eyelids and Lips). I spend more time than most during the consult, educating patients on understanding the science behind their best options, optimal recovery and outcome strategies, the risks of all procedures (as these are all elective procedures) and all the measures I take to minimize these risks. I am proud of my social media branding @drjaluvmabody in that I offer patients free information on how to best stay youthful and attractive, and how to protect your face from damage without even having to come see me in the office! Come see me in the office, it would be a pleasure to meet you – text 310-858-8930.
What are your plans for the future?
I am working to expand my practice not only along the coast of California but also to one day be able to spend time and work in some of my favorite cities across the globe – New York, Houston, Mexico City, Paris, Rome and more!
