Clayton, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well to start this business came to be after I was faced with a sad situation and a hard decision to make. Through out my career life I had always been involved in customers service and mechanical maintenance along with manufacturing. After nearly 18 years in a certain industry and moving from one company to another due to the industries involving an constant financial hardships in that industry, I was working at another facility running equipment while also maintaining and helping manage the facility. My boss at the time ended up having a stroke and within two weeks of the this. The other business partners decided to ultimately close and shut down the business. I was faced with a hard situation to where there was no job openings for my current position and was faced with the decision to either start over in a different industry or wait till something opened up. After a period of stress and job hunting, I started looking into possibly starting my own business, but what could I do. I had minimal money saved up, couldn’t get a loan to start a business and no investors. To top it off I was faced with the hardest question and that was what my business would be. I had pretty good experience with customer service and I was very mechanically knowledgeable throughout my life, always working on something whether it was my bikes, cars, friends vehicles, working on houses,etc. But what could I do that required minimal investment, allowed me to work with my hands, help people, solve problems and also have me travel around. Originally I wanted to start up a towing and roadside assistance business but soon realized the cost would be too much so after dialing it back a bit I came to the conclusion that I would start a roadside assistance and EV charging business. It was the best solution to wanting to provide roadside assistance without the major overhead of running a tow truck. Once I figured what I wanted to do, then came the hardest part, which was how do I actually start this. After doing research and writing down a list requirements, tools, marketing pretty much writing out a roadmap of what I needed to do the get this business to be legitimate and ready to go. After that I believe this is the part where most people have the hardest time getting started, cause now that you have this list of steps and materials, products, everything written down needed to get started. You try to get it all done at once and can easily be overwhelmed and eventually can discourage yourself from proceeding and moving forward, but it is a step by step process. For me what really put this into motion was forming and registering the business. From there it’s real, then I needed to get the equipment I needed to be able to perform the services I wanted to offer, then it’s how am I going to get to the customer, ok now I need an image a logo shirts, cards what is going to be this business’s image, oh now I need insurance for the business and vehicle. I went through all of this making sure I was ready and business was ready to go and I was ready to start helping people. Oh wait how are the customers going to know I exist and how are they going to contact me. So I got a business number and signed up with a popular business app and started creating a ig page, fb page. Soon after I started paying for ads so people could find me. After few months I was getting calls and going out providing amazing service to people that needed help always going to above and beyond while always trying to be fairly an lowest priced service possible. Unfortunately I pretty much ran out of money, I was doing work on the side doing odd jobs and anything I do to help bring In extra money to keep this going. This happened two or three times, just trying to make it work. I knew I was doing good work and my prices were low but ultimately I just wasn’t bringing in enough work. I was at my end broke desperate and ready to give up. On top of it I had just learned my wife and I were going to become parents with our baby due this November. I was ready to call it and put this business on the back burner and go get another job just to make ends meet. It was in that time of uncertainty that a blessing as a friend reached out to me that had some side work for me a big project and he wasn’t able to get to it so he asked if I could handle it and I did. With that bit of money I made on that job I put it all into a marketing service that specialized in roadside assistance advertising and told myself I would go non stop till I made this work. I did come close again to running out of money again but I sat down with my advertising and restructured my preferences and setting a for my ads to better reach customer and from there the rest was history. Taking every call I could and providing a solution to every customers problem trying to save them the most money as possible even when I couldn’t handle their service whether I was booked out and couldn’t get to them in time or they had an issue that I was able to fix or it was something I didn’t offer, I always referred them to someone that could help instead of saying I couldn’t do it good luck. After a lot of hard work and dedication to my business and to my customers I am proud to say that For The Win Roadside has proudly been in business for over a year and half now providing the best affordable and quality service to its customers in the greater Orange County area and even the Long Beach, Los Angeles, Riverside, and even San Diego areas. I am beyond grateful to all of my customers for allowing me to be of service to them and allow me to help solve their roadside needs. Their feed back and reviews have been phenomenal an so heart felt. I will always go above and beyond for all of my customers and anyone that puts their trust in me to help them in time of need. Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a small but very effective roadside assistance company that services, the Orange County area and surrounding counties. We offer basic services like tire repair tire changes tire replacement with both new and used tires at the customers request we we provide gas delivery services for vehicles that run out of gas. We provide lockout services. We provide jumpstart and battery replacement wall also providing mobile electric vehicle charging for both Teslas and North American EVS.
What I take most pride in with this business is our dedication to our customer and solving the problems that they face while also being considerate to the situation they’re in I don’t look to just provide a service but more of an experience to where most of the time, my customers when I pull up to them, they’re in a stressful situation Usually involving other factors on top of the initial car problem My goal is to take a bad situation and turn it into a great situation by the time I am done with the surface. We always aim to provide the fastest response, fastest service and fixing time while also providing affordable service services while trying to save the customer as much money as possible with providing multiple options that fit their financial needs..
I always am an open book and always love to explain the whole process to our customers so they understand fully what to expect and what these steps in the process to getting them back on the road are
I always provide accurate ETA information while updating the customer periodically in route to them so they know exactly how far out I am
I think what sets us apart from other companies is ultimately our dedication to our customers and getting them back on the road as quickly safely and as affordably as possible, where even in some circumstances, if we can’t get to them in a timely manner or can’t handle their service, I will always provide references to other companies that can get to them quicker or be able to fix their problem if I cant. We don’t take advantage of a customer situation by charging anymore for the distance we have to drive to them or the time of day the service takes place or even their lack of knowledge in certain situations.
I always provide straightforward all inclusive pricing.
Honestly, it’s kinda hard for me to describe what sets me apart or how my business is different, but ultimately my customers speak up for me and their reviews will let you know exactly what type of person I am and how the business I run is. I am beyond grateful to all my customers feed back and reviews to where even I’m shocked at some of the praise I get in some of those reviews.
Any big plans?
Eventually, the plan is for this business to start getting bigger to start hiring on more drivers and getting more vehicles so we can be able to help out more and more drivers each year, but ultimately it is to retain the same values and care for our customers no matter how big we get. I would love to be able to get a few tow trucks rolling out there so we can start providing towing services at an affordable price while also setting setting up a brick and mortar tire shop right now for the wind roadside is a piece to a much larger puzzle in the automotive industry, and the for the win name will become something much bigger where it becomes the household go to for any automotive need.
