Hidden Gems: Meet Cesilia Ochoa of Illuxe Balloon Decor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cesilia Ochoa.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, my name is Cesilia Ochoa, and I’m the owner of Illuxe Balloon Decor. I was first introduced to balloon decor while working at a party supply store after high school. Although I didn’t stay there long, I kept decorating for family parties just for fun. Later, I pursued a career in healthcare, never imagining that balloon decor would grow so much or that I’d eventually start a business doing it. It all started by chance. One day, I created an Instagram page to share my work, and since then, I’ve been posting occasionally and learning more about the art of balloon decor.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve definitely had many challenges along the way and I have failed at many things, but I always try to learn from it and don’t let it discourage me from trying something new. An ongoing struggle is trying to balance working on my business, family time, creating, and other obligations, it helps to have a supportive partner. I’ve learned how important it is to collaborate with people who value and support my work. I’m also really thankful for the clients who have trusted me with their special events and have recommended me to others.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Illuxe Balloon Decor?
At Illuxe Balloon Decor, we offer a wide variety of high-quality and long-lasting balloon arrangements including balloon arches, walls, columns, ceiling installations, and fun “crazy towers,” which are made with different-sized latex balloons, foil balloons, fringe, and other creative add-ons. While we can create custom designs for almost any occasion, we specialize in grand openings and corporate events. We also provide balloon decor for birthdays, baby showers, weddings, graduations, holiday parties, conferences, red carpet events, and film or photo shoots. I love how balloons can instantly transform a space and make it feel festive. To make things easier for our clients, we’ve developed a smooth and convenient booking system that simplifies the entire process.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something many people might not know about me is how much I love music and singing. I’ve even taken a course to learn how to use music recording software, but I’ll just leave that part to the pros! I like to think I have an eclectic taste in music. It’s impossible to name all of my favorite artists, but some of them include: Linda Ronstadt, Pedro Infante, Natalia Lafourcade, Prince, Stevie Nicks, Thelonious Monk, Flor de Toloache, Little Brother, Erykah Badu and music by the rest of the former members of The Soulquarians. Rest in peace D’Angelo, who passed away recently.

I come from a very creative blended family. I am the youngest of seven siblings. Both of my parents immigrated from Mexico. My Dad fabricates custom cars-a few of which have been featured on TV and in films. Growing up, we moved around a lot, but my Mom has always had a great eye for home decor and made every place feel nice and cozy with her scented candles and delicious homemade meals. My daughters are also very creative and I’m excited to see what they will accomplish in the future. I’m already very proud of them!

Outside of music, I also have a love for photography and painting. Recently, I launched a sister business called Illuxe Creative Co., which focuses on brand photography, content creation, and other creative projects I plan to work on.
