Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Simply Lit Candles started as a small hobby to fuel my time as a stay-at-home mom. As time went by, my love for candle-making grew. I wanted to create my candles to do more than fill a room with a pleasing aroma. As I created my candles, it was my goal for each candle to be hand-crafted with clean ingredients and to embrace and capture a memorable moment in time but while also including a touch of scents from my culture. The past four years this hobby has turned into my full-time job, we have expanded our candles and have had the privilege of having our candles in some boutiques and PR packages. In the last year, we have experienced the love of the community when we attend pop-ups, and this has definitely been an added blessing to my business. I am proud and excited to see where the next years take us.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a small business comes with many challenges, as years go by I’ve learned new things but one of the challenges is balancing business with personal life. Working for my home and being able to be with my family is a blessing, but also finding that balance of not working too much is definitely one I constantly try to overcome. Small business owners wear many hats in their business, from creator to accountant, to social media manager, these roles are all new and at times can be overwhelming. I have definitely experienced at times creative blocks because of the many different roles, but finding the why is always the part that helps me reconnect to my business.
As you know, we’re big fans of Simply Lit Candles. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We make handmade soy candles with all clean ingredients.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I wouldn’t say there has been luck, more opportunities from the result of hard work. Always finding new ways to improve and put my business out there has led me to meet some amazing people who have contributed to helping my business grow.
