Today we’d like to introduce you to BOAZ PARK.
Hi BOAZ, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and from a very young age, I practiced Taekwondo. I continued training until I left for the U.S. to study drums. Even while pursuing my dream of becoming a drummer, I brought my Taekwondo instructor certification with me—though I never imagined how it would shape my future.
As graduation approached, I asked myself: What is the thing I can do best? Like Messi with soccer or Curry with basketball, I wanted to find my own field where I could truly excel. That’s when the idea came to me—to combine music and Taekwondo. I developed a curriculum that integrates the two, and also run a music academy.
Using my rhythm expertise, I analyzed the beats in Taekwondo poomsae (forms) and composed original music that matches each form’s tempo and theme. Our students now practice their forms to powerful, dynamic music that aligns perfectly with the rhythm of each movement.
Inspired by a class I took at Berklee, I also created Drum Lab, a group drumming program that turns rhythm into a collaborative experience. Today, my vision is to build a culture where anyone—from age 3 to 100—can challenge themselves with music and Taekwondo. We teach drums, vocals, piano, guitar, and bass.
Currently, we have about 70 students, and we travel to over a dozen preschools in Los Angeles and Orange County every week, bringing our unique Music Taekwondo program to hundreds of children. My goal is not only to help students grow, but also to create more opportunities for music professionals to explore their own unique paths and make an impact.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Right after I established the business, COVID-19 hit, and almost overnight, all the preschools we planned to bring Music Taekwondo to closed their doors. For a moment, I seriously questioned whether I should even continue.
On top of that, getting the permit for our music academy turned into a nightmare. What I thought would take a few months stretched into two long years, with endless bureaucracy and costs several times higher than expected.
There were moments of real doubt, moments when giving up seemed like the only option. But I believed in my vision—to create a space where children could experience both Music Taekwondo and a full music education. Through persistence and hard work, we pushed through. Today, we run a thriving academy and bring our unique Music Taekwondo program to hundreds of students every week.
Looking back, all those struggles shaped the business and made every small success—every child learning and moving with rhythm—feel even more meaningful.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Boaz Rhythm Center?
Our academy is more than just a place for kids—it’s a vibrant, multi-generational hub for music, rhythm, and movement. From toddlers to seniors, our students participate in drum, piano, vocal, guitar, bass, and Taekwondo lessons, all taught by expert instructors. Lessons are offered in group, semi-private, or private formats, tailored to each student’s needs and circumstances, ensuring everyone receives the support and focus they require.
What truly sets us apart is the integration of convenience, quality, and focus. Children can finish a small-group Taekwondo class, take a short break, and seamlessly transition into a music lesson of their choice—all in the same location. Parents appreciate that they can nurture their child’s physical and artistic development in a single visit, while every class remains specialized, engaging, and tailored.
We are proud to cultivate a space where discipline, creativity, and community intersect. Whether it’s a child mastering rhythm in a drum circle, a teenager building confidence on the piano, or a senior discovering joy in singing, our academy provides an inspiring environment for all ages to challenge themselves, explore their passions, and thrive.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I’ve learned that the key to creating something truly unique is constantly asking yourself what only you can do. When you focus on how to maximize your own strengths and share them with others, the results naturally stand out from the rest. It’s not just about working hard—it’s about working thoughtfully, leveraging what you have, and turning it into something meaningful for others.
