Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Berberich
Hi Amy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2009 I got laid off from my job in Real Estate management 2 months before I had my daughter. I couldn’t believe the timing, but it ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me. A few months after my daughter’s birth, I began taking a mommy and me pilates class that my friend taught. I would drag Julz in her exer-saucer into the studio and let her play while we did our class. I fell in love with it, and so I decided to get certified. Ever since then, I have opened two studios and have been teaching pilates for 15 years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a road filled with highs and lows! Several years ago, I had an experience that changed everything for me. I didn’t always have the confidence to believe I could run my own business and do it all on my own. But in 2017, I lost a very important person in my life. Losing that person made me reflect and look inward at what I really wanted for myself and for others. As hard as that time was, this gave me the push I needed to believe in myself and start something new. Years of hard work resulted in the thing I am most proud of, Curanim Pilates.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Curanim Pilates is a pilates studio that focuses on holistic wellness. We emphasize how important the mind body connection is while incorporating breath and gathering in community. While we offer many group reformer classes, we also provide private and duet sessions. As our community grows, we plan to add other wellness services to create a more holistic approach for our members.
I think what sets us apart from others is that we focus on the whole person: mind, body, and soul. My goal is to actually slow people down so that they can spend some time connecting to themselves. When you’re connected to your center, you’re more empowered to take on the rest of your day.
If you’re hesitant about committing to pilates, we offer a $69 intro offer – 4 classes over the course of 2 weeks. This will give you a great feel for where you’re at and what your goals are moving forward. We offer different membership packages that align for different lifestyles!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Most of my favorite childhood memories involve being outdoors at the racetrack with my mother. My mother’s job was to take care of all the horses at the racetrack in Sacramento. My happiest memories were going with her to be around the animals and play in the stables. I loved spending time outdoors, walking around barefoot, and connecting with nature.
