Exploring Life & Business with Vivian Son of Vivian Hana Socials

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Son

Hi Vivian, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have so many fond memories of my maternal grandfather, Henry, who was behind the camera often especially when we were babies capturing family moments for us. He had a wooden shelf filled with cassette tapes, including my mom’s wedding video and countless milestones from our childhood—videos that I still cherish to this day. My mom also kept “memory boxes” for each of us, filled with everything from the onesie we came home from the hospital in to our school diplomas and important art projects. These experiences instilled in me from a young age how precious memories are and how fleeting beautiful moments can be.

That passion for preserving memories is what inspired me to start Vivian Hana Socials. After working as a wedding coordinator and managing social media years ago, I wanted to get back into the wedding industry, and content creation was the perfect way to do that. At the time, content creation for weddings wasn’t much more than saving Instagram stories to highlights and perhaps blogging, but I saw its potential. I also loved being the “hype girl” on wedding days, helping out photographers and soaking up those special moments. For me, capturing these memories allows people to live in the moment itself and then gives them the opportunity to relive the most meaningful parts of their lives, and that’s what makes my work so fulfilling.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what makes the journey so fulfilling. One of the biggest challenges has been navigating the responsibilities of owning a business—figuring out all the legalities, financial implications, and ensuring I’m setting everything up correctly. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work, from managing taxes to planning for future seasons of growth, and it can feel overwhelming at times.

What’s exciting, though, is that I get to use everything I’ve learned from my previous corporate jobs to execute the business side of things. Whether it’s budgeting, managing timelines, or planning months ahead to ensure success down the line, it’s a constant learning process. It’s definitely a lot of work, but being able to bring together all of those skills and watch my business grow has made it all worthwhile.

One thing that’s helped me navigate these challenges is developing a solid workflow that balances both the creative and operational sides of the business. It’s rewarding to know that I’m not just capturing memories, but also building something sustainable for the future. I’ve learned that staying adaptable is crucial, especially in an industry that’s constantly evolving. There’s always something new to learn, but I’ve embraced that and see it as a way to keep growing, both personally and professionally.

As you know, we’re big fans of Vivian Hana Socials. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Vivian Hana Socials is a wedding content creation business that specializes in capturing the real, behind-the-scenes moments that couples might miss during their big day. I focus on creating high-quality, real-time content like Instagram reels, stories, and other digital media that couples can share and relive immediately. What sets me apart isn’t just my attention to detail but also my filming style. I’ve received a lot of feedback about how I’m able to truly capture the emotions and feelings behind the day, helping couples and their loved ones feel those moments all over again when they look back at the content.

What I’m most proud of, beyond the visuals I create, is the way I make people feel on their wedding day. Weddings can be stressful, and couples often have so many people asking them questions or needing their attention. I try to be a calming presence, reminding them that this is their day to enjoy and have fun. Whether it’s helping a bride into her dress, taking a deep breath together before the first look, or getting the bridal party pumped up for the grand entrance, I’m there to create the best vibe for the couple, ensuring they not only have amazing content but also feel supported throughout the day.

Something I really value is building genuine connections with my couples. Every love story is unique, and I strive to capture that individuality in the content I create. From our initial conversations to the wedding day itself, I make sure I understand what matters most to each couple—whether it’s focusing on intimate, emotional moments or capturing the energy of the celebration. I want my clients to feel like I’m not just there as a vendor but as someone who truly cares about making their experience unforgettable.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Los Angeles is the exciting energy and endless opportunities it offers. The city is always buzzing with new trends, whether it’s the incredible food scene with diverse cuisines, vibrant local markets, or fun events popping up everywhere. From food trucks to fine dining, there’s always something new to try, making each outing an adventure. LA feels like the epicenter of what’s fresh and innovative, providing constant inspiration. As a creative, I appreciate how the city fosters so much creativity and entrepreneurship—it’s a place where people come to turn their ideas into reality, and that energy is contagious.

What I like least is definitely the traffic. Getting around can be a struggle, and with the city so spread out, it often feels like you spend more time in the car than actually enjoying everything LA has to offer. It can also be a bit overwhelming with how fast-paced and competitive it is, but the unique opportunities and vibrant energy here make it all worth it.
