Today we’d like to introduce you to Neal Lee.
Hi Neal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Young Scholars (YS) was founded with the belief that every child deserves a better education and the opportunity to reach their full potential. Inspired by the vision of “Better Education for a Better World,” YS began as a small tutoring center and has grown into a comprehensive education campus that fosters innovation, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
We focus on individualized tutoring and college counseling, helping students not only excel academically but also discover what they love and who they want to become. Guided by compassion and purpose, YS continues to empower students across Southern and Northern California to build confidence, explore their passions, and achieve their dreams. Our mission is simple yet powerful — to give every child the chance to shine, and in doing so, make the world a little brighter.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth. Like many education organizations, Young Scholars faced challenges adapting to rapid changes in education trends — from the rise of online learning to shifting college admissions standards. During the pandemic, we had to quickly redesign our programs for virtual instruction while maintaining the same quality of personalized learning that defines us.
Another ongoing challenge has been balancing academic excellence with emotional well-being. Every student learns differently, and finding the right approach for each individual takes time, patience, and creativity. Yet, these challenges have strengthened our team and reinforced our mission — to provide a caring, adaptable, and future-focused learning environment that helps students succeed not only in school, but in life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Young Scholars ?
Young Scholars (YS) is an education organization dedicated to helping students achieve their full academic and personal potential through individualized tutoring and college counseling. We specialize in one-on-one and small-group instruction for elementary, middle, and high school students, covering all subjects including Honors and AP courses. Our college counseling program guides students in discovering their passions, building strong academic profiles, and developing competitive college application strategies.
What truly sets YS apart is our commitment to personalization and quality. Every tutoring plan is customized to match a student’s unique learning style and goals, and only 10% of tutor applicants are accepted after a rigorous screening process. We are proud to be known for our caring mentors, top-tier instruction, and genuine relationships with families. At Young Scholars, our mission goes beyond grades—we aim to inspire confidence, lifelong curiosity, and a love for learning that empowers students to succeed anywhere in the world.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson we’ve learned is that education is never one-size-fits-all — every student has a unique story, pace, and purpose. True success doesn’t come only from grades or test scores, but from helping students discover what they love, gain confidence, and believe in their potential.
We’ve also learned that building trust and genuine relationships with families is just as important as academic results. When students feel seen, supported, and inspired, they grow far beyond expectations. This belief has guided us through every challenge — from adapting to new technologies to redefining how personalized education can transform lives.
At Young Scholars, we’ve learned that when we teach with empathy and lead with purpose, we don’t just help students reach their goals — we help shape future leaders who will make the world a better place.
