Today we’d like to introduce you to Nataly Salas
Hi Nataly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After we got married, I fell in love with events and wanted a venue of my own. The thought was just a dream because I was working a 9-5 at the time. And after the pandemic and having my daughter I wanted to be in control of my schedule and career. So my husband and I sought out to buy a business. We had spent a few years looking for the right path and option for us. When we found this business we finally took the leap! We knew we could implement the tools from our careers to expand this business. We focus on customer service, fast response time and quality products. We now have business partners that have helped us continue to grow and expand. Our next step is to scale our business and open a venue space for our clientele.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have definitely been struggles along the way. When we purchased the business, we were supposed to have more assistance from the previous owners but it really didn’t happen. We adapted and learned a lot on our own along the way about this industry. From an outsiders perspective, this industry can seem easy but to make it past the hard times, you need to have grit, passion and resilience. You meet a lot of great vendors and friends but you can also meet a lot of people who want you to lose and can take advantage. Tears have definitely been shed! Ask any vendor in the industry and they will tell you it’s tough but if you love this path, the end result is what makes it worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Occasion Above Event Rentals. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
You should know that we love ALL events! We specialize in curating memorable events for all of our clients. We try to be a one stop shop for our customers so that they don’t have to have the hassle of reaching out to different vendors on their own. We understand that in itself is a full time job! We offer rentals, florals, balloons, event design & decor, and full planning. We also always have a strong list of referrals because we have seen so many clients get burned by unknown vendors. I am most proud of the quality of service we provide. In the space that we are in, there are the large corporations and then the small family businesses. We understand that for the smaller businesses, there may not be a lot of man power and so service can sometimes be on the back end of things. But for us we know that service is key. The customer wants to know that they matter and that we are listening to their needs and wants. I am proud that we always put our customer first and ensure that they have an amazing event, no matter how big or small. I want our customers to know that we are always up for a challenge! That I come from a creative background of visual design. If we haven’t done something design wise yet it’s not from lack of trying but mainly from no one wanting to book that just yet! So challenge us and let us take care of your next event, we know that we can accomplish anything thrown at me!
What makes you happy?
In business, a calendar full of events makes me happy! And when a customer books a new trending design that we haven’t done yet! In my personal life, I value spending time with my husband and daughter. We love to travel and go on mini adventures. In this industry, it’s easy to constantly stay focused on new clients, upcoming work and lose track of time. We value our time spent together and ensure to set time aside.
