Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Modecki.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Some people are drawn to exclusivity, owning something that no one else has. It’s why people collect things like art, trading cards, books, cars, real estate, etc. License plates, by design and function, must be unique. They are a symbol of self expression, creativity, and status. As a California native, I grew up seeing personalized plates on the road, and I got my first plate in my teens. Since then, my car always had a custom plate. In 2015, California changed their rules and began allowing plates to be transferred from owner to owner. This opened the door for a plate aftermarket. Plate sales were booming around the world and in a few US states, so I figured it would happen in California. After a few years of waiting, I decided that I would make it happen in California.

Some strategic marketing and publicity pushed the California market into the spotlight. Owners of rare plates began to contact me to help them sell plates that have been in their possession for decades. I also began growing my own collection of plates and partnered with my friend, attorney Paul Philips. His extensive legal experience in California brought a whole new level of credibility and networking to the project.

Since day one, the ultimate goal has been to bring the world record license plate sale to California. The world is watching as our market grows and evolves. People wonder who will ink their name permanently in US history books and become the G.O.A.T. in California.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There is no smooth road when it comes to entrepreneurship. Despite proof-of-concept around the world, the social and economic environments have slowed the growth of the buyers market. On the flip-side, there is tremendous interest in selling, resulting in the emergence of some rare and desirable plate messages.

We’ve been impressed with PlateBroker.com, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
PlateBroker.com was founded by a native Californian and is the first business to introduce the concept of a high-value license plates to our state. The goal is to bring the world record plate sale to the USA for the first time in history while building a robust plate aftermarket that benefits buyers, sellers, and California. We pride ourselves on operating professionally, legally, and ethically while adhering to the rules and regulations set forth by the State of California.

The market is very narrow, but very deep. It’s one of those “if you know, you know” type of clientele. As we continue to dig deeper, I’m proud to that I get to nurture this project as it grows, no matter the pace. What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Patience. There is no doubt about that. Sticking with it and believing in it, no matter the barriers or setbacks.
