Today we’d like to introduce you to Luxi Jin.
Hi Luxi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Lucy Paris is a family-owned women’s apparel company that blends Parisian heritage with modern American style. The brand was originally founded in Paris by my father and later led by my aunt, Jennifer Jin, who remains our creative director today. After relocating our headquarters to New York in the late nineties and then expanding to Los Angeles, Lucy Paris began partnering with department stores including Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom’s, and Dillard’s, while continuing to grow through independent boutiques across the country. In recent years, we’ve also launched our own online platform, giving us a direct connection to our customers. What sets Lucy Paris apart is our ability to deliver contemporary, feminine fashion that feels both trend-forward and timeless — collections inspired by Paris, influenced by New York, and styled in Los Angeles. Though the brand has grown significantly, we remain rooted in our family values, with Jennifer leading the creative vision and myself now serving as CEO. Our mission is to make women feel chic and confident, without ever compromising quality or accessibility.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an apparel brand that designs and imports our own collections, our biggest challenge today is managing the compounding pressures of tariffs and rising production costs. The costs for garments have been climbing steadily, and when combined with tariffs that range from 30% or even 50% and more, the impact on margins is significant. Our customer expects pieces that are well-made, effortlessly chic, and on trend. Staying true to that promise is what builds our customer loyalty for over 20 years. The challenge is finding the perfect balance: keeping our collections on-brand, our silhouettes elevated, and our partners thriving, all while protecting our margins.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
In fashion, every season is a risk. We design around a core look that has always resonated with our loyal customers, but trends evolve quickly, and there’s a good amount of anxiety on whether our new designs have aptly integrated today’s latest trends while keeping true to our brand identity. Thankfully, after years of experience and a deep understanding of our customers, we’ve learned how to strike that balance — delivering fresh and modern collections that make women look and feel their best.
