Hi Leslie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My love of travel and my commitment to being financially secure fuels my curiosity. I delve into the intriguing questions of why some people achieve and maintain wealth while others struggle. What motivates individuals to endure years in jobs they despise? How do some manage to avoid drowning in credit card debt? Growing up in a small town in Kansas was uneventful until the age of 13, when I was traumatized by the sudden death of my father. My mother and I relocated to Dallas, where I didn’t fit in. In the years following, I found my way to Los Angeles, got married, and had a few kids. Life threw another curveball when my husband and I had to take on the responsibility of financially supporting his parents, who hadn’t saved for retirement. These major life circumstances became the driving force behind my 30-year journey in learning about how to manage money.
I was lucky to come from a family who taught me the importance of not spending more than you make. However, that strategy only gets you so far if you don’t know how to invest.
Knowing that I had no idea how to change our financial situation, I employed what I encourage those hungry to level up their finances to do: get paid to learn what you need to know. I’ve worn multiple hats—financial advisor, personal banker, and real estate investor—learning firsthand the inside track to wealth management and growth. I gleaned knowledge the hard way when I invested in real estate right before the 2008 downturn and brought our family finances perilously close to devastation. These poignant life lessons have ignited my fervor for creating, imparting, and employing simplified financial tools to use as a compass to stay and not stray away from your desired financial freedom destination.
As the founder of Structured Success Inc., a boutique company dedicated to providing tools, education, and training for wealth preparation and maintenance, my days are spent crafting resources to support and guide clients on their unique journeys toward financial freedom.
When I’m not creating and working with clients, you’ll find me immersed in travel planning, cruising on my e-bike, and exploring the vibrant activities that Los Angeles has to offer. Have you visited the Academy Museum yet? For fellow movie buffs, it’s an experience not to be missed!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In hindsight, I reflect with profound gratitude, acknowledging that my path has been far from smooth. One of my most formidable struggles has been liberating myself from inherited limiting beliefs, deceptively intertwined with my own thoughts but stealthily implanted by outdated societal norms. For example, “Wealthy people are greedy.” Overcoming the message that I’m not good enough or smart enough, especially during academic challenges, revealed the influence of belief systems that were not true. It’s intriguing to note that within the word “believe,” there lies “lie.” Unexamined beliefs can hold us back from embracing our true nature. Recognizing and challenging these limiting thoughts has become a daily ritual integral to the work I undertake with my clients.
Another significant challenge has been the practice of forgiveness—both of myself and others. It took several years to fully embrace the wisdom encapsulated in the words, “Holding on to anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die,” as attributed to Buddha. The journey of forgiveness is profound, requiring a deep understanding that letting go is not a sign of weakness but a powerful act of self-liberation. It is through these challenges that I’ve discovered the wisdom to guide others on their paths, helping them navigate the intricate terrain of self-discovery and financial healing.

How do you think about happiness?
Receiving a text from a client that reads, “You are my activity angel,” or hearing, “Getting out in front of this stuff is like a new life,” not only makes my day but also fills my heart with joy. Getting an early January email from my daughter, asking me to guide her through my income tax preparedness process so she can file her return, brings me immense delight. Riding my e-bike, where every hill feels like a downhill journey, grants me a sense of freedom and peace. Extended travel to Europe ignites my soul with inspiration. Knowing that the work I do contributes to ending suffering and brings peace of mind allows me to wake up every day feeling alive, awake, and enthusiastic!
