Exploring Life & Business with Kara Serrano of Sugar and Honey Mobile Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Serrano.

Hi Kara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Of Course! I’ve been in the service industry for over 15 years. I’ve always wanted to open a bar but unfortunately having a small child I couldn’t be in that industry day and night. My daughter is now an older teen and I started to look into an avenue that could align with a long time dream. So I started researching how I could open and start this business. Then she got a sudden opportunity – she was selected to play soccer in Spain! So, I had to come up with a large lump sum of money in three months… So I said, “I’m starting because you are going!” and just like that Sugar and Honey was formed. What I have come to be true over the years is – Never underestimate a mother’s love and willingness to do what it takes to make their kids dreams come true.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say smooth. I am a full time mom with a full time job and starting a business, I’m a published Author and creating a coloring book for kids. We have a busy household of 4 – Our weekends are either on the soccer field or at an event. There are plenty of things you learn quickly. What to do, what not to do and when you have no clue what to do let confidence be your guide. Its really not about the struggles, its how you handle the struggles under pressure and your willingness to go above and beyond for your clients and their experience.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a dry hire mobile bartending service. We can handle the smallest events of 10 people to a party of 500. We pride ourselves in taking the stress away from you and we’re here to make your life as easy as possible. I can never claim to be the life of the party but we definitely add a special, picture perfect, esthetically pleasing experience. I can’t tell you what sets us apart from another mobile bartending company, there are truly great ones out there that are ran by great people, but I can say for me and my staff we are here to elevate your event. Interact with your guests and make every single person – adult or child that comes up to the bar feel like they are the most important person in the room. Customer service is key for us and we pride ourselves in that space.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I was born and raised in LA. I don’t think there is much to not like.. We’ve got city lights, beaches, snow and the most perfect weather you can even imagine. Not to mention extremely fun people! All the city is missing is Sugar and Honey at every event! 😉
