Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Paquier.
Hi Jonathan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Paris. In 2009, I met my now American wife while she was visiting Paris. On my first trip to California to visit her, I noticed a lack of good, affordable French food. That moment sparked my passion to bring authentic French crepes to the United States.
When I returned to France, I studied the art of crepe-making under two prestigious crepe masters in Brest, the birthplace of crepes. I then worked at a restaurant in France, continuing my training in French cuisine, with a special focus on crepes.
Eventually, I moved to California, where I worked in several restaurants and, in 2014, started my own crepe stand at the Newport Beach Farmers Market. Over time, I transitioned to exclusively catering private and corporate events, bringing the taste of France to gatherings all over Southern California.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was the language barrier and navigating the complex laws and requirements of starting a business in a new country. I’m very grateful to my wife, who played a huge role in helping me set up systems and manage the business side of things.
Another ongoing challenge has been finding reliable employees who meet the high standards I have for customer service and food quality. Maintaining consistency while growing the business has required a lot of patience, learning, hard work, and adaptation.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a French crepe catering company specializing in made-to-order sweet and savory crepes at private and corporate events. What sets us apart is the authenticity we bring. Our crepes are crafted by a true French chef using traditional techniques and ingredients, offering guests an experience that’s both delicious and culturally rich.
We’ve catered over 1,000 events, including baby showers, bridal showers, birthdays, weddings, retirement parties, and high-profile corporate events. Our past clients include The Marriott, Sézane, SEGA,,Petersen Automotive Museum, and Glen Ivy Hot Springs, among many others.
We’re most proud of the quality and consistency we deliver, along with the joy we bring to each event. Our goal is to transport guests to France, one crepe at a time, and to make each gathering memorable through exceptional food and service.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I didn’t have a mentor when I started. I drew inspiration from my favorite restaurants and the flavors of France that I grew up with. That personal connection to my culture helped shape the vision for my business.
In terms of networking, what has worked best for us is word of mouth. Providing great service and memorable food experiences has led to strong referrals and repeat clients. We’ve also used advertising to build awareness, but nothing beats the power of personal recommendations.
For anyone looking for a mentor or to grow their network, I’d recommend staying active in your local business community, participating in industry events, and not being afraid to ask questions or seek guidance from people you admire. Even informal conversations can lead to valuable insights
