Exploring Life & Business with Jasmine Goldford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Goldford.

Hi Jasmine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today
Absolutely! My name is Jasmine and I am passionate about helping people heal themselves. While I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I also use additional modalities to assist in healing and remembering one’s wholeness again.

My journey into this field started when I met my first therapist at 15 years old. I can still remember the warmth and safety I felt sitting across from her. She was the first person to give me hope during some of the darkest times in my life. She walked alongside me as I wrestled with addiction, eating disorders and sexual trauma. Through her guidance, I began to understand my pain as she helped me to remember my wholeness again. It was my work with her that ultimately led me to become fascinated with humans- specifically why we hurt and how we heal. It was then I knew, I too wanted to give others the gift of hope and healing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No….it definitely has not been a smooth road, and I am so grateful for the journey! I remember finishing graduate school and feeling SO much! The excitement of the completion of my Master’s degree, the hunger to get all the experience and hours towards licensure, the heaviness of my student loans and the need to keep doing my own inner work. At that time, interns were getting paid an average of 0-10$ an hour! It felt impossible but the desire to help others fueled me to keep going and find a way to make it all work. I worked at many different clinics while juggling many babysitting/side jobs to make ends meet. Although the journey was not easy, I do look back and smile at how worthwhile it has truly been.

I always knew I wanted to have my own business so eventually, I took a leap of faith and left my job as Clinical Director to start my own practice. I was scared and leaned on friends, family and mentors for support and guidance (I still do!). Being my own boss for the first time was both liberating and overwhelming to say the least… but you learn as you go. I learned the importance of asking for help and self-compassion, and I am just so grateful to all the teachers I have met along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My work  involves the use of many psychodynamic techniques coupled with sound healing, and other embodiment practices. I meet my clients where they are on their healing journey. Whether it’s their first time working with a therapist or they’ve been doing this self-work for a while. My goal is to guide my clients towards developing a better relationship with themselves and their physical body- helping them to also feel from the inside out.

Our trauma, our beliefs and our experiences are stored and remembered within our bodies. We can heal and remember our wholeness again by developing a relationship with our physical bodies within a safe environment. I use psychotherapy (Cognitive and Dialectical behavioral therapies), embodiment practices and sound healing to help my clients develop a relationship with their self- as a whole body. Through these modalities, they can release trauma remembered in the body and create harmony within the nervous system again.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Oh man…I am a big fan of Hillary McBrides work she does with the body and embodiment. She has a great book “The Wisdom of Your Body” that I think everyone needs to read! I Also always love listening to the wisdom of Brene Brown on her podcast Unlocking Us.
