Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamm Gallery
Hi JAMM, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
JAMM Gallery was born out of the collective dream of several artists who sought a place where they could freely create, collaborate, and showcase their work. The vision began with two of our co-owners, Alaina Joy and Joe Rabcow, who often discussed the idea of establishing a studio space and art gallery. They envisioned a future where their dream could become a reality.
As their artistic journey unfolded, they discovered a local community art gallery where they met Jess Imperiale, who would eventually join them as a co-owner of JAMM Gallery. Alaina and Jess, both serving as board members of the gallery, grew increasingly dissatisfied with certain aspects of its operations, particularly its lack of diversity and inclusivity. During a conversation among Joe, Alaina, and Jess, the idea for JAMM Gallery was conceived. Determined to turn their vision into something tangible, they set out to find a space and like-minded individuals to join their mission.
Their search led them to a location in Morganville, NJ. Around the same time, Alaina connected with Sonia Tepas, an artist she had been corresponding with on Instagram, at an art show. Following the show, Alaina reached out to a group of artists from the event, sharing the concept of JAMM Gallery and inviting those interested to join. Sonia responded and, along with her partner Marcos Zalazar, met with the group. That very night, the LLC was signed, and JAMM Gallery officially came to life.
As they introduced Sonia and Marcos to the secured space, Sonia brought along her friend Psian Camana, another artist who contributed valuable ideas for the gallery. Psian was invited to join the journey, and the team secured the keys to the space on March 1st, 2024. With that, they began the work of bringing JAMM Gallery to life.
Today, JAMM Gallery is a membership-based art gallery dedicated to fostering a dynamic community of creators. We provide a unique platform where artists can exchange ideas, collaborate on projects, and push the boundaries of conventional art. Our mission is to empower artistic collaboration and community engagement, creating a vibrant space where diverse talents converge to inspire and collectively enrich the cultural landscape.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to establishing JAMM Gallery has certainly not been a smooth road. Like many new ventures, we’ve faced our fair share of challenges, particularly as all of our owners balance their busy lives, work, and personal art careers with the responsibilities of running a new business.
One of the most significant struggles has been managing our time and energy effectively. Each of us is deeply committed to our individual artistic practices, and many of us hold other professional roles as well. Finding a way to dedicate the necessary time and resources to the gallery, while not compromising our own creative pursuits, has required a great deal of careful planning and communication.
Another challenge has been navigating the complexities of starting a business from the ground up. While our passion for art and community is unwavering, the logistics of establishing and maintaining a gallery—securing a space, managing finances, and building a sustainable business model—have been daunting at times. As first-time business owners, we’ve had to learn quickly, often through trial and error.
Additionally, fostering a truly inclusive and diverse space has been both a priority and a challenge. While we are committed to making JAMM Gallery a welcoming environment for all artists, ensuring that our programming and outreach efforts reflect this commitment has required continuous reflection and adaptation.
Despite these challenges, the dedication of our team and the support of our community have kept us moving forward. Each obstacle has taught us valuable lessons, and we’ve grown stronger and more resilient as a result. The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding to see our vision for JAMM Gallery come to life.
