Today we’d like to introduce you to James Cool.
Hi James, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Thank you for having me, I’m so excited to be here. For me it began with my upbringing in Huntington Beach, surfing waves and running track. Early on I had calls of being an entrepreneur, selling custom skateboard decks to friends then starting a club with Hurley, that gave clean water to hundreds in the Philippines after the detrimental typhoon. After college in Arizona, I started a career with Amazon making my way up to an Operations Manager where I honed my leadership and communication skills. During that stage of my career, I ventured into Real Estate with two rental properties which really opened my eyes to the opportunity this field can have. Now I’ve jumped all in and am a full time REALTOR with Coldwell Banker Realty and am loving every minute of it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been some bumps along the way. My time at Amazon ran a little longer than it maybe should have leading to me taking a leap of faith and moving back to HB with no work lined up. Luckily, I was able to find another operations position with a startup that lasted for half a year before being let go. As painful as losing your job is I’m so grateful for the confidence it gave me in my next step. Real Estate was knocking on my door for a few years at that point and finally broke it open and told me the time is now.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
What you should know about me is I’m a friend who has got your back. My strength has always been in my contributing character; I am my best when I’m being of service to others. From giving clean water access to another country in high school to guiding countless others into promotions and now being the Community Service Chair in the Huntington Beach Rotary, it’s something I really pride myself on. This aligns perfectly with real estate as my whole purpose is to represent my client and ensure they are benefitted in the end.
My specialty in Real Estate is knowing the local community, especially in Huntington Beach. This is my home, I know what’s been where and what’s coming in next. If you’re looking for a local that has roots in this town, I’m your guy. With my history in investment properties, I also have personal knowledge on investing in Residential Real Estate which makes me a great resource for those in that realm too.
I’m most proud of my role helping my city grow and improve on itself, I love being a part of something bigger. If you’re looking for a home by the beach in Orange County, I’m here to help you find your deal and have your back from day 1 to the day you get the keys.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Great question! This industry is definitely going through a whirlwind right now. As a Realtor we have seen changes from NAR that help ensure the client’s interests are always put first. The direction we are going with AI and the access everyone has to information are going to make or break a lot of agents. It’s crucial right now for those in this industry to learn the tools being born and how they can utilize them to become a greater asset to their clients. As more access is available and more tools are created, there are going to be many buyers and sellers questioning the worth of using an agent. With platforms showing listings it’s clear that finding homes for our clients is not the major part of our position it once was, the role of an Agent is shifting. Now we are gifted time to add value in other areas of the home buying/selling process. It’s going to be a lot of fun to be a part of this progression.
