Exploring Life & Business with Jacobie Tillman of The Couture Lifestyle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacobie Tillman.

Hi Jacobie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I come from a small island called Galveston, Texas, a place filled with love, family, and faith. My journey started right there in my grandmother’s kitchen where she used to press my hair on Saturday mornings. Watching her work with care and pride inspired me to fall in love with beauty and transformation. That moment planted a seed that would later grow into my purpose.

Over the years, what started as a childhood passion turned into The Couture Lifestyle, a brand built on confidence, luxury, and empowerment. From there, I expanded into The Couture Queens, my salon home, and launched IJUMAA, my natural hair care line created to celebrate and nurture textured hair the way it deserves.

None of this came easy. I’ve faced challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt, but my children became my motivation to go even harder. They’ve watched me build this dream from the ground up, and seeing their eyes light up when they talk about what I do reminds me that I’m walking in my purpose. My husband has also been my biggest supporter, from late nights helping me build salon spaces to encouraging me to dream even bigger when I was scared to take the next step.

I’m proud to be one of the first Black-owned salons located in Alvin, Texas. It’s a blessing to create a space that represents excellence, inclusivity, and community in a place where that visibility truly matters.

Every part of my story, the island roots, the kitchen pressings, the sleepless nights, and the prayers, has led me here. I’m living proof that faith, family, and perseverance can turn even the smallest spark of a dream into something beautiful and lasting

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been being an active-duty military spouse. Moving every two to three years meant I had to constantly start over and rebuild my clientele from the ground up each time we relocated. There were moments when it felt like all the hard work I put into growing my business was being reset.

But through it all, I’ve learned that every move was part of God’s plan. With His grace and the talent He blessed me with, I’ve always managed to flourish no matter the location or circumstances. Each new city taught me something different about resilience, faith, and the power of connection. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s made me stronger, more adaptable, and even more grateful for every client and opportunity that comes my way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Couture Lifestyle ?
I’m a natural hair and weaving specialist located in the heart of Alvin, Texas. I’m the owner and CEO of The Couture Lifestyle and co-owner of The Couture Queens. My passion is helping women embrace their natural beauty while also providing luxury experiences that make them feel confident, empowered, and seen.

What truly sets me apart is my extensive education in the hair industry and my hands-on experience working with every texture imaginable. I’ve traveled all over the world to continue learning and growing as a stylist, and that knowledge allows me to serve each client with skill, care, and intention.

I’m most proud of opening two salons by the age of 32, all while being a wife and mother of four. I’ve built my brand from the ground up with faith, hard work, and purpose. My journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been beautiful watching my vision come to life.

My brand is self-made and created with love in every detail. Even my hair care line, IJUMAA, is fully natural and handmade by me. I want people to know that The Couture Lifestyle isn’t just about hair — it’s about transformation, confidence, and creating a space where women can feel their best inside and out.

What does success mean to you?
I define success by peace, purpose, and impact. For me, it’s not just about the number of clients I serve or how many salons I open it’s about how I make people feel and the lives I touch along the way. True success is being able to walk in your God-given purpose and still have peace in your heart while doing it.

As a wife, mother, and entrepreneur, success also means balance. It’s being present for my family while still building something that represents legacy and faith. Every time I see a client smile, every time a woman feels confident after leaving my chair, and every time my children tell me they’re proud, that’s success to me.
