Exploring Life & Business with Gabrielle Paciorek of Mirth & Merriment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Paciorek. 

Hi Gabrielle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a filmmaker, specifically a director/DP. The journey started when I was in high school, and I discovered editing. The idea of putting shots together to create a new meaning was absolutely magical to me. I actually thought I was going to be an editor, but then cinematography caught my eye in film school. Fast forward years later, and I have my own production company and work with ad agencies and clients to create commercial content. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth doing is easy. There will always be challenges, but I see that as an opportunity to flex my creative muscles. It’s competitive out there for commercial directors. I bounced around for a while to different production companies, learned a lot, and then when the time was right, I started my own production company. That was in February of 2020. We did one job, then everything shut down due to the pandemic. That just proved that timing is never going to be right, so just go for it. I pivoted to animation, and it was a lean year, but eventually, I got back on set, and we survived. 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My company, Mirth & Merriment is a boutique production company specializing in commercial content. Basically, we make commercial and brand films. We specialize in mixing live-action and VFX. With everything under one roof, it makes the process smoother, pivoting easier, and the creative more fun. 

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Since we’re small, we take on fewer jobs, giving more attention to each project. It’s a win-win for us and the client because we end up with a really fined tuned piece that both us and the client can be proud of. It also allows me more time to experiment and grow my skillset and artistry with narrative projects in my spare time. This, of course, makes my commercial work even better. It’s an upward spiral of constant education and improvement.
