Today we’d like to introduce you to Elle Emma Photography.
Hi Elle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Sure. Before shooting events and BTS I started doing photography in headshots, which really taught me the ability to see people and notice the details about them that make them unique and special. I bought my camera because I actually needed a headshot for myself and always felt like my true essence wasn’t being captured in the shoots I was paying for. I’m actually camera shy and the standard just ‘turn here, look there’ wasn’t doing it for me and bringing me out of my shell. I never felt like myself in the photos and they never looked like how my friends see me. I figured I could maybe try to shoot myself — I thought, why not? So, I bought the camera for me and then I found myself shooting friends and clients and then eventually I transitioned into bringing those same intentions and details to events and behind-the-scenes. The vision is still the same: find what’s real and special about people and experiences and catch it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think in life meaningful things are always a journey. Working with people was the easier part because that’s one of my favorite things to do. Being self-taught, there was a lot to learn along the way from the technical side, the business side, to tuning into my artistic voice, all of it. The journey has been so worth it. There is clarity and something to learn in the stories we tell.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a photographer. I specialize in events, behind-the-scenes and headshot photography. I’m most proud of the feedback I’ve gotten and being able to capture photos that are impactful and meaningful. What sets, not just me, but any good photographer apart, is my ability to listen and to see what is needed.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been a creative and interested in creativity, expression and stories. I get to live in that and be myself through photography.
