Today we’d like to introduce you to Edel Legaspi.
Hi Edel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Edel Legaspi, Owner and Principal of Legaspi Courts Design, a full-service interior design and interior architecture studio based in Los Angeles. Our work spans from large-scale luxury residences to creative commercial spaces, and every project is driven by my passion for creating dynamic, engaging environments filled with color, texture, and form. I love translating each client’s vision into spaces that feel personal, thoughtful, and alive.
My background blends design and architecture with a deep understanding of the construction process, which allows me to balance creativity with precision. Early in my career, I had the incredible opportunity to work with Kelly Wearstler on iconic hospitality projects like The Viceroy Santa Monica and Avalon Palm Springs—an experience that confirmed my love for interior design. Later, I held senior design roles at RSA and Wolcott Architecture, where I sharpened my technical skills while working on complex, multidisciplinary commercial projects. My time with Jamie Bush + Co. gave me the chance to design several published luxury residences, which ultimately inspired me to start my own practice.
I earned my BFA in Interior Architecture from Woodbury University, where I now serve as a regular design critic. I’m NCIDQ certified and a professional member of IIDA, the Design Leadership Network, and ArchDigest Pro. Over the years, I’ve been honored to be named one of Traditional Home’s “Rising Stars,” with our work recognized by CA Home & Design, Interior Design Magazine, and the LUXE RED Awards, and projects featured in publications like Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, LUXE, and House Beautiful.
Currently, I serve as VP of the Los Angeles Chapter of AAPIDA (Asian American Pacific Islander Design Alliance), a national organization close to my heart that champions representation and community for AAPI professionals in the design and home space.
At the heart of it all, I believe great design tells a story—one that reflects the people who live, work, and connect within it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Navigating the design industry for over twenty years has not been without challenges. The 2008 financial crisis tested my resilience and forced me to reevaluate my professional path. In 2011, I took a leap of faith and co-founded a design practice with my husband—a roller coaster journey that taught me the realities of entrepreneurship and the value of perseverance. I was fortunate to have the support of friends, family, and mentors who believed in my talent and encouraged me to stay the course. Their guidance and trust continue to inspire me as I lead my own design studio today.
As you know, we’re big fans of Legaspi Courts Design. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Legaspi Courts Design is a full-service interior design and interior architecture studio that creates spaces that are both beautiful and deeply personal. We specialize in high-end residential and boutique commercial projects, with a focus on customized solutions that reflect each client’s lifestyle, personality, and vision.
What sets us apart is our collaborative approach. Our design aesthetic is never static—it evolves based on the project, environment, and the client’s unique needs. We prioritize understanding how people live in a space, what makes them feel comfortable and inspired, and how design can enhance daily life. This results in interiors that are tailored, functional, and memorable, not just visually striking.
We are proud of our studio’s ability to balance creativity with thoughtful execution, delivering projects that are not only exceptional in design but also completed seamlessly. Our team is carefully curated for character, professionalism, and collaboration, ensuring clients experience a smooth and enjoyable process from concept to completion.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Los Angeles for its diversity and the immense creativity that exist in this city.
What I like least is the traffic.
